Was able to fab up a simple license plate mount today so I could get rid of that bulky plastic one. Thought I would share it with y’all in case anyone was interested in making one.

All that is really needed is 3 pieces of stainless flatbar (size optional to what you want or have available. I found these in the scrap bin)
    main base plate:11” x 1 1/2” x 3/16”
    2 pieces that hold the plate: 5 1/2” x 1/2” x 3/16”

Once drilled and tapped the 2 pieces, I figured out where I wanted them mounted on the base And sparked those bad boys together.

And voila you got yourself a nice alternative to that stock turd of license plate mount!

That’s slick, make a few and put them in the market place when you are able.

    Nice work!

I went a bit simpler and lower profile. Haha! The OE mount is definite crap.

I re-drilled the plate to match the holes from the original mount.

Let me know if you make more to sell, I may be interested. Waiting on my vanity plates, and I don’t want to mount that honking plastic brick on my sexy taco bumper.

Nice. Funny, I was looking at the bulky stock mount this morning thinking how ugly it was. I’m going to take your approach of just drilling the plate itself.

    Thanks!

Yeah. The fact that they felt the need to put 'no step' on it was more than enough reason to hate it.

ScubaSteve, curious - why weld on those vertical pieces? Couldn't you just drill out the mounting points on the main bar?

The plate would be hanging too low in my opinion if it was on the main bar and there is more support with the 2 pieces behind it

If only we didn’t have to even display a front plate. I ordered vanity plates, so I’m enjoying the bare front bumper look while the inmates craft my new tags.

We have to run front plates here too, my truck is almost a year old and I still have not stuck it on yet.
