I'm looking for recommendations for a narrow crossover tool box that sits above/between the wheel wells but below the mounting rails (and preferably in black, not silver, but I could compromise or paint). The UWS TBS-54-SPLA is basically perfect (see pictures here), but it's about 20" wide, and with the short bed already being so small, I'm looking for something closer to 12" wide. Does something like this even exist? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, crashnburn80. I like the look of that one, and Kobalt is a good brand, but I really don't want it above the rails (might get a tonneau down the line). I'm also not too keen on how, when mounted up that high, there's a bunch of space beneath this style of tool box. I'd also like it in black but didn't initially mention that in the OP.

Anyone else in the know when it comes to tool boxes?

Hey SlapChop7, thanks for the help, but that's actually the exact model I linked in the OP. Great minds really do think alike! :D
It is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, but it takes up a lot of depth in the bed (about 20"). I don't really need that much storage space, and with a short bed, I'd rather it be closer to 10-12" deep.

Ahhh, I see now. I actually have that toolbox bookmarked BC I like that low profile too. But I see what you're saying now.

That Kobalt one comes in black. My neighbor just got one. I know it is higher than the rail which foils a cover a bit but... it does come in black.

Thanks for letting me know, Manpants. I definitely like the black better. I'm pretty set on getting it below the rails, I think that's more important than the color or exact size. If I can't find something a lot like that UWS one but narrower, I'm probably just going to go with it despite the size. I might even get it in silver to save the $90, then paint it black. That might be more trouble than it's worth, though...

I've thought about it some more, and if I'm not gonna find something narrower, it actually seems more reasonable to just go with the 42" Wedged Chest instead of the 54" Crossover (above). It's the same price (or even cheaper, depending on the source), gives 1.8 more cubic feet of space while still taking up around the same space in the bed, and fits between the wheel wells without hanging overtop them. If none of us find a better idea, I'll probably get this within a couple months. I'll update with pictures when I have it installed.
