Seen Tacomas get 16/17 or 12mpg
Not sure how different an LS is

at least in a Corvette they get ok highway mpg barely laboring at low RPM

Buddy had bone stock 2000 z28 auto we got 24mpg to ls fest and back. But you will be heavier and your trans ratios, rear gears and tire size will play a factor. I'd say you could still get 20mpg. I have a 2000 SS with 7.4L lsx t56 and 4.10 gears and I avg. 17 mpg with moderate fun pedal application.

Personally I’d go with a 4bt swap, exempt from inspection and get probably 30 mpg with more torque.

LS swaps in vehicles are becoming increasingly very popular and there's many shops / businesses that specialize in these swaps . Look at spending upwards of $20k but it Well worth it !!!

My '96 LT1 (OG LT1) powered buick roadmaster wagon got 24 mpg highway without issue and that thing was a boat, but a rather aerodynamic boat

I'd rather do a diesel swap, 4BT or TDI at that point

4BT is sweet but its heavy AF. I know a guy that swapped a Tdi in his truck and it suits the truck pretty good. Gets almost twice the MPG I do lol

they definitely have some weight to them but are pretty simplistic and damn reliable engines for someone who wants a rig for exploring or off-roading. An OM617 is another good candidate for a swap too. Good thing about the 4bt is parts are plentiful and cheap. I remember having to go to a dealer for a lot of my VW parts when I had a Jetta, so that may be something to consider when doing a swap too.
