I have an 04 pre-Runner and there is at least 1 Zerk for adding grease on the U-Joint in the back. Its dry, probably hasnt had grease in years. Going to add and see if the noise does go away.

I think it was my brake squealers. Does anyone know where they are. I think they are on the inside of the wheel, and you can adjust them? I adjusted mine and have not heard any noise since.

wipe off the excess grease too. unless you like the smell of burning grease on your exhaust and then again when you first shift into 4x4 lol. I went nuts thinking i had an oil leak the one time I forgot.

That particular clunk from the Driveshaft area only happens with automatics. During the last moments of the stop, the drums(or rear disk) are offering a large resistance to the driveshaft ....and the auto is still "torqueing" in the forward direction even without any gas pedal. Might the wobbly rubber encased carrier bearing be the cause of the clunk?

Maybe someone can put a camera near the carrier bearing and review the tape to see the clunk happen......

The clunk goes away when the tranny is popped into Neutral during the slowdown period.

As far as greasing the fittings I use Lucas “Red and Tacky” the NLGI one on my 2010 4x4. And when I greased my zerks (5 of them), I know the dealership or anybody for a fact doesn’t do it and it was a very liquidy grease that came out. I’ll grease my zerks every oil change.
As for the driveshaft slip yoke there is a boot that’s put over top of it and I’ve seen one or two guys on here with a write up on it, on YouTube on how to disassemble this and lube it and reassemble it
