3in rough country suspension lift. 285/70r17 GY UltraTerrains on 2016 4runner wheels. Also have 2005 DCSB tacoma prerunner. Currently stock, working on 4x4 conversion then will get lift and bigger tires.
Glad to see you back in action getting you taco finished up. I have just started ordering parts to do this swap on my wifes taco.
I have a question about the ADD, lucky i know you worked out a cable shifted actuator but my question should work either way. Without having the 4x4 ecm controlling it and being able to read the abs wheel speed. Can you still actuator the ADD while in motion?

I know this was a long time ago now but do you remember if the splines were the same on a750e and f? And if so do you think the A750E output shaft could be shortened to make it work instead of using the inchworm adapter? Cant see myself spe doing 300+ for the adapter then more on an extension housing when I can just buy a lower mileage transmission than what I already have.

I'm almost always in motion when actuating the ADD, both to engage and disengage, but never at any significant speed, 10mph or less. Not that I think it would hurt to be done at a higher speed, its just a coincidence that all the times I engage, I'm already slowed down and either leaving blacktop or already going slow on the trail. I think I read somewhere that the electric switch controlled 4x4 and ADD could handle engagement at speeds much higher than you would run on the trail, but in my case I'm always going pretty slow. A few times when engaging from a stand still, I needed to allow the truck to roll just a tad to fully engage the ADD, same with dis-engage. Hope that helps.

I remember looking at that adapter back then. I didnt think it was worth it either. I dont remember if I considered having the E shaft shortened, or if diameter and spline were the same. What I do know is you get a good 750F with the correct tail section for $600-700. Sell your 750E to recoup most of that, all of it if the right buyer comes along. Takes the sting out of the tranny cost and you end up with parts that just bolt right up. Modifying the E shaft seems like a ton of effort - probably have to have it out of the case, need a mill, and maybe even an F shaft in order to know the exact specs you'll need to cut to. I say go get a low miles F from LKQ. While you're there, get an FJ x-fer case for another $350 or so, crack it open and do the twin stick mod. Turns out I use 2-Lo with rear locked way more than 4x4, but sure am glad I had the x4 the times I needed it.

That is the answer I was looking for. With my 4runner I can activate awd/4x4 at speeds up 62mph according to owners manual. Won't need to at those speeds but mostly wanted to know if I could just leave the tcase in 4hi and then actuate the ADD if needed. Were I live we offed get dry payment lom the main roads then pure ice or snow down side streets so I would be nice to be able to flip it into 4x4 on the fly.

I remember reading something from another member's 2nd gen Prerunner 4x4 conversion... that the sequence for engaging 4x4 always needed to start with ADD first. In that guys build he was still operating the ADD electrically, but not using the 4x4 ecu, just a stand alone switch - he also did the FJ xfer case with twin stick mod. His theory was if you ran in 4hi without the front diff engaged then engaged it while at speed, there was risk of front diff damage. Fear of that being true, I have never tried it. When I want 4x4, I always engage ADD first, then shift at will at any speed in and out of 4x4. I havent had any problems doing it that way and my conversion is still running strong.

Its similar to how I shift my 77 FJ40 in and out of 4x4... I have to first lock the hubs, then I can shift in and out of 4x4 at will while moving, not the other way around.

I'll see if I can find hat other build and share the link.

How many miles does your engine have on it now since you swapped it in?

I've put 120K miles on the 09 engine . The truck is at 203K. I think I have around 45K on the 4x4 conversion.

    stand by for FJ...

Thanks. Wiring the indicator lights wasnt too hard. Your Prerunner truck will not have pins or wires in the positions that control the indicator lights, so you just need to get the right type to snap in to the instrument cluster connector - the other end of your wire will go to the sensor and the 2nd wire on the sensor goes to ground. I had several loose Toyota connectors in my parts bin and was able to find a connector match for the cluster connector.

The red and brown/white wire from the instru cluster go to plug F12 behind the glove box. This would be the plug that plugs into the 4wd ecu. pin 11 and 19 in that connector. I read it on the internet so it must be true. lol. I'm pulling my apart this week to connect the lights.

In my conversion, I did not use a 4x4 ECU, so mine goes directly to the shifter position sensors on the xfer case.

My truck needs have changed a bit this year - I need a 3/4 ton smoker. Thinking about selling this thing. Might see it pop up in the FS pages this weekend.
