I bought my 03 PreRunner V6/auto DC almost a month ago. I really like the truck and have very few complaints about it.

Something that I have noticed is that when I come up to a full stop, it seems like the truck is in neutral and when the truck completely stops, the truck then seems to go into first gear. It basically feels like I have just put the truck into first gear with the brake on. My truck has 105K miles on it.

I just "test drove" an 01 PreRunner DC today and it did not do this what-so-ever. This truck had 108K

    Anyone else experience this?

    Thanks,

Its axel wrap. Do a search on it, and you will find it common on alot of Tacomas.

My 05 Tacoma does this as well. I made a post about it and was also told it was common. One thing I was told is that it seems to do it more, or all the time when your air conditioning is on. I didn't think mine was at the time, but if you have your temperature dial set all the way to the cold side and have it on the defrost vent setting, it appears that this is using the air conditioner. Even though my AC light isn't illuminated, I can tell that the air coming out of the defrost vents is way too cold to be the outside summer air. When I would switch the vent setting dial to some other set of vents that didn't involve the defrost, it seemed to go away.

I have read and researched the axle wrap issue and I don't think that is what mine is. The suspension on my truck is still very stiff. I am not having problems when I am taking off, only when I stop.

My first thought is that there is slack in my drivetrain. I have crawled under my truck and there seems to be ZERO slack in my driveshaft.

my 06 does this at stop lights all the time, it probably creeps about 3 to 6 inches then stops, doesnt make any bad noises or anything. kinda weird but it think its just one of those things. just make sure to leave space between you and the car in front of you.

is the defroster/AC in use when this happens?
