Don't know if mine was as bad as yours but it just feels more "solid" now.

That's the only way I can describe it. Plus it returns to the utmost upper position every time, with only a tiny bit of play in the pedal.

Mine has always returned to the utmost upper position. And its always pop'ed/squeaked. Its really stiff I cant feel when it engages

    WHOA Bro!

    j/k

If I wanted to use cruise control, 85% of the time I would have to stick my foot behind the pedal and give a little help engaging the switch.

In the clutch pedal squeak mod thread, I think the consensus was the #70 spring from autozone is a bit softer than the original OEM torsion spring.

I'll see if I can dig up that post for you.

    Post #3 http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/159429-clutch-squeak-linear-spring-swap-tw-how.html

    Maybe that helps? :notsure:

There's no way it doesn't work.

Let me know if it helps your issue.

So after 6 years I finally got around to figuring out why my tailgate handle protrudes from the trim by at least 1/2"

When I pulled off the access panel I was surprised to see one of those metal braces (?) just floating around my tailgate. The welds were busted

    Driver's side (busted):
    photo-19-1_fbf2e006d0c9cb1d2274996b4e0ea7bb848e2873.jpg

    Passenger side (fine):
    photo-20-1_9f8622b3f4b2d78ac4241b130d71336747b8b2e8.jpg

Nothing a wooden shim can't fix:
    photo-21_59805e81cc886c2dd90d3f283ac791e33226d370.jpg

So now onto the reason why I opened the panel. This is what my tailgate handle has looked like for about 6 years:

    photo-22-1_1f704549e2bbbb58a795cecf2b86436905b6c6a9.jpg

Upon inspection I realize that the panel itself was pushing on the back side of the handle mechanism thus making it protrude. Notice how the section of panel behind the handle is concave and not convex:

    photo-23-1_6a301ef79dcb915139ea7f697d05d220b98a1b4f.jpg

Yup, it's the panel pushing the handle mechanism out:

    photo-24-1_21e2d6e0c0a070b3b5baf04443ef85b0bd62c578.jpg

So I got out my body repair kit and went to work:

    photo-26-1_611dacb3c5124704e34297d9cf3b1b336b6288a5.jpg

Put every thing back together and voila! Flush:

    That's crazy...

Because mine is exactly like that! Except it sticks out slightly less than yours does. I'm still waiting for my Pop&Lock to arrive (almost a month and a half already on backorder). Then I'll take the time to look at what's up under there.

Was it tough to unscrew that panel? I have tried in the past and it was pretty tough and didn't budge.

I just got a #3 phillips head on it and just unscrewed them.

Granted my biceps are the envy of most men and my forearms are like Popeye's from my porn addiction...

...but I think you should be alright. Hit it with a drill on low rpms if need be

How much sanding did you do for the rear bumper?

45acp gave me his bumper and it was already painted flat black. (the first pic is how it came to me)

It was scratched here and there, plus it could use a freshening up. Not to mention I wanted it semi-gloss, not flat.

So I just sprayed 4 or 5 light coats over everything. By no means will it win any car show paint jobs, but it looks really good in person.
