Would a dirty mass air flow sensor cause loss of power? My truck in second gear doesn't get up and go like it used too. About 3 weeks ago I started using premium gas, but this probably started about a week ago. Feels normal after about 2500 rpm. Starts fine, but sometimes it will rev up to about 1k at idle.... dirty maf?

sounds like the maf sensor may be the demon I've chasing, my 95 tacoma 2.4 stumbles and bucks sometimes and other times runs like a clock, I got a can of maf cleaner I'll let you'll know what happens.

Can we use the contact cleaner for the MAF? Or is that not good?

Can't really say as I've only used dedicated Mass Airflow Cleaner.

there is endless debate over this but companies like CRC that make MAF cleaner insist there is a difference. I would just get the MAF cleaner to be safe. It's cheap and sold at any auto store. New MAFs (OEM) for these trucks ain't cheap so I wouldn't take the chance myself.

I used electronic cleaner from CRC and cleaned my MAF and it seemed to do the trick. No more check engine lights and the hesitation at lower RPM acceleration feels gone. Thanks

Lost the gasket/o-ring so now I get to go on a treasure hunt at the hardware store for one not too thick (diamter is 1-1/4”).

    Hey TacomaWorld!

1997 Tacoma 3.4L V6 here with 165,000 miles. Been mine for about 2 months, and I'm slowly updating the routine maintenance aspects.

I see I have the 22250-20020 MAF installed. Works fine, but I believe I will need to take off the air intake hose to be able to clean the sensor - this looks like an inline integrated assembly, not the type you can access the sensor by removing the 2 Philips head screws - please confirm my understanding.

I was planning on replacing the spark plugs - so the air intake will come out for access to the passenger side spark plugs - so I might as well clean the MAF at that time - make sense? I was planning to leave this assembly on the airbox, or do you think I need to pull it off the airbox to clean properly?

    Thanks!

    TxIn
