Hey all! I threw a p0343 code for camshaft position sensor (CPS). Battery, starter and altenator checked out fine so I assume it is the sensor. Looking closer in my 2012 4.0 v6 taco engine bay on the left engine head I see this...and I'm like wtf!

My questions to you great folks are is this where that sensor is located? It looks like a magnetic sensor. If it isnt the CPS, could it throw the same code. Can I bypass the wire harness and solder right on to the sensors prongs? Thanks ya'll

Dude. You got rats or squirrels...

Yes you probably could solder directly to the connector pins. I would first check on getting a replacement plug and or harness.

Oh and put some mothballs under the hood to keep the rodents away.

Ahh man, that's what I was thinking. I don't usually drive Monday through Friday because the wifey and I carpool. I can see those furry bastards getting cozy up in there.

So the plug-in clip I need is designated to the engine wiring harness and that is much harder to find than just a sensor. Pretty much Oreilly, Autozone, and NAPA didn't have the clip/wiring harness so I'm waiting to hear back from the stealership on the part number so I can define my search better online or in store. Major bummer.

It does in deed suck. Those connectors can be a real bitch to locate.

Thanks for your advice guys, I had my local shop order the part and it came in less than 24hrs. I soldered and heat shrink wrapped the wires. I am happy I replaced the wiring to prevent future headaches instead of soldering the wires directly to the connectors. Now, to keep those pesky critters away...
