Sometimes a bad battery will cause problems but that does not sound like that is what is going on here.

Hi Maine Peeps! Looking to take a driving trip up to Nrw England. A few stops being Boston, Flume Gorge (NH) .... We wanted to visit Maine, probably the south western corner by the ocean. My husband has never been to Maine. Some lighthouses come to mind to see along the coast. It'll be a vacation with a lot of driving... So we don't want to go too deep north.

Any suggestions of places to go? We enjoy scenery... Hiking, walking....and good food (nothing fancy. Give me a good Pub).

    Thanks!

    Portland area has lighthouses
Scarborough has the clam bake restaurant
Camp Ellis has more restaurants and the saco river mouth with lobster boats.
Old orchard beach close by but wicked congested during the summer.
    Kittery trading post more south.
Plenty of antique shops along the route one corridor.
You can do some deep sea fishing on a charter.
The Easton trail is like 65 miles of biking and hiking trails.
    So much to do.
If you let us know how far up you want to go I'm sure you'll get a ton of help.

Must be something recent as they must use a more advanced scanner now. They could never do anything except read engine codes. Good to know.
If I get a chance I'll look into that code for you. Just had one yesterday and going to be a hefty bill. :(

some of these will seem odd, but here is what I would check in this order

    1. Gas cap, good secure, no cracks or leaks
    2. Fluid level sensor, fluid level at the master cylinder and solenoid
    3. ABS solenoid, relay, and fuse
    4. Brake switch under petal
    5. The wheel sensor connections

    Thanks for the input!

1 Gas cap seems OK. Its tight and in good condition. Also, there is no check engine light on from evap.

2 How do I check the fluid sensor? Fluid level is near max, not over.

3 ABS solenoid relay. This is where I believe the problem is. Hence the code thrown. How much are those to replace? Its an easy do it yourself right?

4 Brake switch seems good. I've checked it a few times. Brake lights go on when pedal is pressed/off when released.

5 Wheel sensor connections. That's all new to me, where are they? what do I look for?

    Thank you so much!

    Gas cap does not apply
    WSS does not apply
Fluid level does not apply in this case.

To many things to check without a printout to help you Mark
    Possibilities are
Abs sol, relay, fuses like Dustin said.
    Wiring
    Brake switch
    master cyl.
    Hydralic ass.
Need to check voltages at the relay.
    Voltages at master cyl
After all the tests are done and everything checks the way it should then you will need to replace the hydraulic ass.
You can't just guess at this Mark. You need someone to get in there and spend the time to run the diag correctly. You can be talking a bunch of coin and you want to make sure it's a one part failure to repair. Could be as simple as a fuse or corroded wire or a greater problem.
The toyota dealer can run the active tests to save a bunch of time. Aftermarket scan tools sometimes lack certain abilities however not saying this would be the case if you went somewhere else. Just giving you some info..
Don't start throwing parts at it...

You can always take it into a dealer to get a diagnosis, then repair it yourself if you feel comfortable, or see if a garage that charges less has the ability to do the work. You can authorize a limited number of hours of diagnosis when you drop the truck off as well.

I would just take it to lee's. Chances are they have seen it before. If you take it somewhere else the rate may be less, but it will take them longer.

I'm not planning to "throw parts at it". I am certainly not going to let some mechanic throw parts/labor at it with my hard earned money if I don't have to. Here is my game plan... I am going to replace the relay because the code mentioned a problem there. Then clear the codes at advanced auto. If it works, great. If it dosnt, I'm going to let it be. Its just an annoyance for now. I restart, it clears. If it becomes worse, I will bring it in.

Thank you all again for the help!

I gotta copy all that and save it for future reference while plotting things out.
    Sounds awesome!
We were in NH about 10 years ago and did a fishing trip. Didn't really catch anything and got really sick - seas were pretty rough. Lol. I think I'll pass on the fishing this time. :)
    Thank you!

Anyone in here have reputable mechanic in the Skowhegan, Farmington or Waterville area? I have some work I want done by person with a little more experience than I have personally.

    Define 'reputable'.....

When I was living in Farmington pre-2007 Pro Service had a rep for doing good work, but they were on the pricier side.

Edge Automotive (next to Motor Supply, the Car Wash, etc) is run by a guy called Kevin Spencer, who used to work for the VIP in Farmington (but is actually a hell of a mechanic). He got done at VIP because of disagreements with management, not because of botched work. He'd be the one I'd probably recommend going to see for most general automotive work. Not sure on his pricing, though.

There's a guy out on the Dutch Gap Road in Chesterville who's a good mechanic but isn't exactly reputable, named Jimmy Gilbert. He used to run Farmington Automotive, over by the Fairgrounds, but I'm not sure what the name of his new shop is.

Thank you. Reputable for me would mean a skilled mechanic that is honest with the customers. It would also be nice to find someone that doesn't do a sloppy job.

Gotcha. Edge Automotive would be my best suggestion, then. I haven't used them, but my GF and I used to know the owner when we lived in town and he's a good mechanic.
