So my order should be here mid week. I have another question though, how do you guys deal with decals/emblems and the buffer? I have the stock pin striping, I'm afraid i might have to take this off to do the job properly. Also if i do get some new/more decals from sockmonkey, how do you buff over or around them sufficiently with out peeling them up. I'm mostly worried about the pin stripes and even around the emblems though.

Oh and looks sweet PcBuilder, you build PC's much? :p kind of my hobby too

    Here are a few suggestions.

First, tape off the entire truck after you've thoroughly cleaned and claybar'd it. Edges, lights, molding, etc.

Then, make sure you start lightly and work the m105 into the paint...to get a feel for it. You can always go deeper, you can never go back. Remember that when it comes to your clear coat.

Its important to understand how much paint you're leveling...because as a former boss once said "thats one less."

Hopefully you'll never need to do this again, and with the right car care you won't.

Be careful, take your time, make sure your lighting is excellent, and show us the results!

    Good luck.

Great stuff in this thread... I wish I had found this sooner so I'd had a chance to get some stuff ordered before the holiday weekend. :(

What should i do about stickers? I have the stock pinstripes and the TRD stickers on there. I feel like the orbital will mess them up?

Ok I should be able to tape the TRD stickers no problem, but what about these? Almost think I should remove them..?

It came out pretty good. Learned quite a few things about the DA. Im sure i could do better next time around but overall im really happy with how it came out. Sorry about the crappy pictures, i know its hard to tell im some that its any better. Id say i got 80% of the swirl marks out and the more deep scratches are much less noticeable.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help on this!

That looks great! I am about to do the very same thing to remove scratches from my Gen 1. I have read that the clearcoat on yotas is soft and doesnt require as much cut or effort (same with Hondas). Did you use a CCS orange pad with m105? And how long did you work in each section? 30 seconds? I know it really depends on the severity of the scratch but I'm just afraid of burning through too much clear. Thanks for any input.

I did use an orange pad for both 105 and 205. The problem I ran into was, while doing the 105, it was freaking hot outside. Even though I put my canopy up, It was drying too fast and I feel like I had to put more work into it than needed. The 205 coat went twice as fast and i feel like pulled out a lot of defects as well. I did the 205 in the evening when it was cool. Noticably different on how it applied, much more usable.

I took my time for the first hour or so, trying to get a feel for the DA and how much it was going to affect the clear coat. Honestly after a while, I never felt as if I was endangering it at all. The pads worked really nice and seemed to form around edges/curves to distribute the pressure more evenly than I anticipated. Hope that helps! But you should consult the pros who have posted in this thread already, I have no idea what I'm talking about really :p

2 x 2 foot sections at a time right? Did wipe dry with a microfiber towel? Also, am I well prepared using Miller Light instead of New Castle? I mean if I don't top it off with right brew I'll blow the whole damn thing! :drunk::bananadance:

Thanks a bunch guys! really appreciate the help

Well I wouldn't say 2x2 foot sections exactly. My truck didn't have a checkerboard painted on it :p I just did a general 'area' at a time. Tried not to let it go too big. Yeah I used a microfiber towel to wipe it off. Don't let it sit too long, likes to stick If you do! And haha, yeah I'm sure the miller will get you started just fine. Though I didn't start drinking until I had a few hours into it!

Wished I had seen this ages ago... I would have said come on out my way and bring a half rack..... I also do detailing on the side.

Oh and since there are a few others in this thread detailing.... I ran out of some of my Meguiars stuff (haven't found a supplier here yet) so I bought some of the OTC Meguiars products, the 'Ultimate' compounds and polishes, and I was pretty surprised, they did a good job on my buddy's oxidized 350z. I've been using the compound by hand to take care of a few scratches here and there as well.

Ryan, we need to keep in touch bud :)

    Hey! Must have missed this

I was going to ask you about your grille during the mod day but forgot. How did painting it go? I want to paint my chrome RR and finally get around to the satoshi but its hard to get motivated on this one.

Do you use any "sealant" or pad rejuvenation stuff, i noticed my passes with most of the products seemed to dry up too fast and turn pasty and stop working too fast
