Actually, if it's done correctly, that type of enclosure construction is acceptable. I would typically make use of only the rear wall of the vehicle as an enclosure wall, not the floor. Past that, if it's sealed and you do a thorough job of dampening the inside of the enclosure, it can make for a great sub box!

Started pulling the interior and getting to work Saturday.

Here's the "box they built me with the back "fully dynamated" like I asked.
    null-13_7221b80c0a5fb97a84315852b78af6a2f0309d99.jpg

I had to redo the door speaker mount as they incorrectly made one. One of the screws wasn't even in the wood. I'm so pissed I let them do anything to my truck.

Here's a quick one with the box installed, actually fully dynamated. It's a rough mount.

I have the plastic cutout to go around the box installed and started making the amp rack for under the seat I'll get pictures of that when I can. I had to start fabricating so much that I ran out of time this weekend. About 6 runs to home depot to get new bolts, more wire, and random parts that I needed now that I'm remaking and fabricating new parts to make my truck quality once and for all.

I got a question for ya'll. So when I pulled apart the door I found that the speakers they installed are the infinity reference 9633cf 3 way speaker as well as a tweeter. does anyone know if this added tweeter actually helps out or if I should just ixnay it?

It's a crappy picture but I got the dynaliner installed for under and behind the sub box, as well as the basic placement/mounting location for the power spliter, each amp, and the grounding location and bolt placed. Loooooong slow process. I'm taking my time and doing it right so I don't screw up something I can't fix.

    Tonight's task you ask?
    null-19_34e19f77871368ecdfa6ce50b7f34961e2fdf5cd.jpg
Use these to make this beautiful
    null-20_8ff7271a435f68fdb61974ad6404e335aa0bf1f7.jpg

And then dynamat the driver side and lay a layer of 1/4" dynaliner over it.
One tip for people doing this that I've found. Leave the bolts in place and when you lay the dynaliner down you'll know where they are and make an cut with an exacto atop the bolt. The dynaliner slides nicely over the bolt in perfect form!

That's all for tonight. Tomorrow is the other side.
Get your thoughts on this idea though. I'm thinking of using an American flag instead of carpet over my box. What do you all think?

I was never confident enough to do it before, but with many many hours on tacomaworld researching I decided to make a go at it. I'm kinda kicking myself for not doing the research in the first place and saving a ton of money.
You'll love doing the work. It's actually pretty fun.

I took the front and rear driver side door panels off this weekend to remove the speakers to make my baffles for my new speakers that went pretty good. The only thing i'm really worried about is removing the seats and the carpet to run the wires and all.

Unless you're running the wires down the center or amps under the seats you can just run the wires down the trim pieces and you don't need to take the seats or carpets out. If you do still need to take the seats out its super easy. A tip, take out the rear seat, not back, and pulling the front seats out the back is way easier. Just disconnect the battery and unplugging the air bag stuff is easy.

Well, one thing leads to another. I paid for getting two awesome helicopter jumps at 10k feet with being sick so my truck is still on hold. One thing I did do is wrap the box. Hooyah America!!!

    663128da-f7eb-4370-a4a5-4166444c8e95_96462df19ce3adfc0ed535bf7668be88121c468c.jpg
    null-24_b0d0f76cc8179ecf7aaf1b248d658f7d01c6938c.jpg

It's my first wrap job so it's obviously not the prettiest, but I think it came out decent. I've got one more touch to add to the box and it'll be completely done and mounted.

I put the truck back together and it sounds SO much better. The bass is cleaner, hits harder, and rumbles like I always dreamed it should. I wish I had just sucked it up before and done it on my own. Like they say, if you want it done right, research the crap out of it, listen to people whove been there, and then do it yourself. Check. I still am waiting on some more dynamat to finish the last three doors, but that should be this week and no biggie. I finally got my bezel in too, so here's a picture of that.

The liner helps with temperature actually, as well as absorbing sound.
And yeah, I'm still EOD. Don't see getting out anytime soon. It's a pretty good gig.

you're right. Honestly, it's just a more expensive version of raammat.
