Hydro assist makes the steering box mounting wayyy less important strength wise

Half the people I see welding on frame rails have hydro assist. I'm 0% worried about mine, it's the strongest part of the entire truck Lol

Yeah psc big bore box meant for like a tj. New frame is 3/16. I’ll cut some steering box mounts out of 3/16 and then sleeve the bolts with dom. Weld it all together rand drop it over the frame. I would hope it holds lol

That's basically how I did mine as well.

Interested to see how the steering box on the inside of the frame rail works out!

Yeah same. I’ll mess with it this coming week hopefully. If I have to I’ll notch them frame to sink the steering box in with a body mount over the top. We will see though

Got a little done today and last night. The inner c’s gave my press and i a run for our money. In the end, can’t be tight if your liquid lol.

axle is set at ride height. That’s a wheelbase of 126-130 (shooting for 128 or less) and that’ll put the center section at hitting the motor at 7.5 inches. Panhard should fit between the motor and radiator.

got the brackets for the steering box cut. Psc must have two different big bore boxes as mine is a little different from the one my dad is running. Need a radiator that is significantly smaller though to clear the steering shaft.

I’ll look into the 3rd gen one as I already have the smallest 3rz one in there now. Issue is I raised the frame so everything needs to be significantly smaller.

I found two from griffin radiators and one from summit racing. One griffin and the summit are both 22 inches wide by 19 inches tall. That’ll fit between the frame rails and box but will be close with the hood. I may be able to angle it a little but not much since the fan is there. The other one I was looking at from griffin is 22 in wide by 15.5 tall. This would be ideal but seems pretty small and worried about cooling issues. The griffin ones are 3 inches thick and have two cores which is way bigger than my current one. Summit is only 2.25 inches thick.

Thanks. My dad came up with the idea and used it to move his 14b and 60 around. Picked up the jacks at the junkyard and make it easy to cycle suspension etc.

If it's a trailer queen, toss the radiator in the bed.

It is and it isn’t. It gets trailered to like the hotel or camping spot but like sand hollow we still drive 20 minutes to the entrance of the park, we typically drive from Tahoe to loon lake (70 miles or something) for the rubicon and I drive it to the trail heads in Moab. Plus with the bobbed bed it’s already pretty small with no good place for it. Thought about it and quickly ruled it out.

This kingpin stuff has been rough. Only spent a few hours in the garage but was trying to get the the old kingpins out so I could try to turn the id of the c down to fit the axle tube.
    Kingpins-6
    Me-2

I broke 2 breaker bars, bent an 8ft cheater bar, bent a bunch of metal by beating on them after welding it to the kingpin, broke an extension I welded to use my big impact on.

in the end cut the kingpin as low as I could and welded a 1/2 nut on super hot with tons of penetrating fluid and hit it with the impact for a minute or so lol.

got one back side of the c turned down before I broke the lathe cross saddle. I don’t have strong enough tool holders to do the id so I’ll have them taken somewhere to be done.

bumpstops showed up and found a set of new in box hubs which should be here later this week.

You keep making a SD60 with ball joints look more appealing! Especially since I’ve done them twice on my old F250 and know what I’m in for at least

Knowing what I know now and I didn’t find such a good deal on my rear axle setup I would have done unit bearings all around but the rear spindle and hubs etc I got a good deal on and to make carrying parts easy I did the same for the front so that meant kingpin.

I’ll probably never have to do this again and will be easier when there is something to hold the c down rather than just a vise with my body weight holding my welding table down lol

Lower link frame mounts tacked together. Kind of at a stand still till i get the hubs and high steer arms. Should be here this week hopefully.
