Notched the frame some more for the draglink. Still not enough so think I’ll end up putting a small section of frame on top and bridging it and cutting the entire notch out. Also got the bumps recessed and mocked up a shock to figure out how much downtravel I’ll get. Just a temporary shock tower. Will get redone wider to accommodate the coilover as well.

I had an engineer at my former job tell me that the reinforcement should be 2.5X's the length of the notch on either side. Obviously fact check that!!

Short break for the holidays but finally found some time and motivation to go out and bust out the lower shock mounts and start on the uppers.

Looks like I actually did something today. Got the passenger side shocks mounted and tacked together. Onto the driver tomorrow and then more cycling.

things are really tight. Had to rotate the bump can so the bypass clears the bolts on full articulation and will have to drill a hole in the panhard mount to get a nut on the shock bolt. Lots of clearancing and cycling to be done.

hood still closes. Fenders just sagging in that picture. Shocks are angled about 5 degrees back and tops angled 2 degrees out to clear everything.

Yep. Adapter is pretty bad though as it’s a single seal and under torque in 4 low fluid goes by the seal. Better off finding a 4wd trans or finding an aw4 from a Jeep and swapping bell housings etc since they’re the same transmissions essentially

Got the driver side tabs cut and hoop tacked together. It’s always hard copying stuff from side to side to be the same.

Lately it’s been one step forward and then 100 back. Had the lower shock mount bolts oriented the wrong way so bad to remake them. The steering arm got into the bypass so had to redo the uppers and angle them back 10 degrees. Bypass still kisses the panhard mount so will angle that in tomorrow. Slowly but surely getting there. Using all of the travel the shocks has though. Atleast on the bypass. Cause of the angles, coilover is the bump at articulation and bypass fully extended the down travel.

need to finish the lower shocks mounts and clearance the upper shock mounts to get more angle out of them and then it’s onto the engine cage.

    some more pictures

Went to sand hollow over the weekend and rode with my dad for winter4x4jamboree. Was run. A couple roll overs. Gave me some more motivation to get working. Tried redoing the upper shock mounts again to inboard them more but stuff is to tight so made another set and put them back how I had them. Need to mess with the bypass orientation and do a little more cycling and finish the lower shock mounts but everything is tacked and cycled for the most part.

sitting at a 24.5 in frame height with 7.5 inches vertical up travel and about 8.5 under articulation.

took a break from the shocks and started on the engine cage. Took me a few hours to figure out the bender and notcher but got moving pretty well the second day.

Thanks. Never really bent/notched tube on my own. All the other projects my dad was around and gave me ideas and guidance so it’s a learning experience. Just kind of putting stuff where it fits lol

Redid the fender bars. Probably add a 45 piece from the shock tower to the fender bar and then a rear hoop along the firewall and be done with the tube work. Probably time to move onto mounting everything to the tube work. May be time to make a list to so I know what I have to do lol

Curtis steel is where I get sheet metal and tubing and everything else. Curtis doesn’t sell dom unless you special order it so I’ll get that from highland steel or this last time I got the dom for the links and steering from scorpion motor sports which is just around the corner from Curtis.
