The angle of this drop off looks sketchy AF. Seems like your suspension is doing an incredible job of keeping all 4 tires on the ground still though. At this point how do drops like that feel with your setup?

I won’t lie this was pretty sketchy. The top where the guy is standing is like a lions back with a drop on each side and not much room to maneuver. Truck felt fine but the driver probably dropped off a 2-3 ft maybe larger ledge while the passenger still had a foot or more till it crested a ramp down. I probably could have backed up and hit it a little straighter but everyone told me I was good. As the driver dropped, I stayed off the brake and a little gas. The rear passenger did lift a few feet in the air but it felt stable and once the passenger front dropped the edge it leveled out.

it was probably a little more of trust in my setup and just experience. Several others did the same thing with a lot more throttle and it was pretty violent. Mine felt and from what everyone said looked smooth.

normally on something like that though I just back up to drop off with the front at the same time on each side and not as much of an angle. Was just a tight little spot. Overall tje truck normally feels pretty stable. I can 3 wheel it quite a bit before I start getting worried and that’s pretty rare because of the wheelbase and suspension travel I have. A lot I contribute to just experience and how much I wheel. There’s stuff I do now I looked at 2 years ago and thought I’d never be able to do.

some other pictures of the same obstacle better showing it and my dad going down it but being maybe a foot or two farther to the passenger.

Not sure how this relates to @malburg114 ’s build, but I’m not complaining :D

Double cab and extended cab use the same frame as far as I know. The bed overhangs are just different.

and I want to bob the front of the bed now to shorten the wheelbase

Yup @POSTacoMike and @joemauma have both done the swap. Would you be trying to get about the same wheelbase as your dad's truck with that?

Goal would be 115-120. More than likely 118-120 would be doable. No real reason other than to help with turning and sometimes being so long I get wedged in some spots. But it also does really well 90% of the time. Turning radius is main reason. Front digs would fix that though lol

What are you at now - by doing that I'm guessing it would be a full tube bed cage by that point? Maybe sheet metal trunk?

Are we talking wheelbase or total length? I thought first gens were alot shorter than 2nd gens and I know my pig is 128” WB as an access cab. These were taken from autoblog site for first gens.

Wheelbase I thought, but obviously already at 122.

Ok, figured so but just wanted to be sure. I’m assuming the front axle here was pushed forward a few inches. I’m sure I read it through the build at one point but those brain cells probably died :cookiemonster:

My current wheelbase is 130. It works really well on climbs and 90 percent of stuff. Every now and then I get wedged in some awkward things. Nobody knows how to spot me either lol

I have a rear disconnect for my Toyota cases I plan to add. Not sure how they’ll hold up to front burns and 40s though.

if I did shorten it I’d just bob the front of the bed to match a 4 door cab. Bed would be just big enough for a spare. Although I want to do it, I doubt anytime soon.

Ah the extended cab short bed - would be convenient to have a short bed dimension in case you need to swap it out at some point too. Would you link it since leaf springs would be a little challenging at that point? There's a TTB V8 2nd gen extended cab "short bed" in Mexico:

Nah no plans for links. Maybe a 3.0 bypass vs the 2.5 but that’s it’s. It’s just moving the leaf spring hangers and then angling the frame to clear at full flex so nothing crazy fab wise.

Rolled it outside and filled the tires. Need to do a bolt check and it’ll be ready for moab in a few weeks.

crazy to think it’s been a year since I finished the links and the amount of trails I’ve done.
