Well made a new driveshaft with a single u joint at the top. A quick rear drive proved there was no way in making this work unless I went back to a cv and limited the downtravel. Go figure limiting the downtravel would be almost 4 inches (only 2 or so inches of downtravel after).

after a ton of calls to driveline tech to figure something out, it was determined my only solution was a high pinion. So like usual, fires the money cannon and ordered a high pinion. Should be here next week hopefully.

driveline issues didn’t even cross my mind when I was putting the atlas in.

some pictures of the driveshaft though

High pinion showed up and got that installed. Need gear oil and to put the transmission cooler in and it’ll be ready for a shake down run.

Wrapped the exhaust to cut down some heat and resealed the header to exhaust flanges. Still waiting on oil for the third but hoping to do a test run next week and then trail hero the following week. B7B1C5F5-0A30-47CA-80D1-B5BFF7B41585.jpg

Do you seal your exhaust flanges with RTV?

I have been with this new exhaust because I made the flanges and had some exhaust leaks. Seems to be working. I’ve been using that copper rtv which is the high temp stuff

Interesting. So just the RTV with no other gasket. Never tried that.

Copper RTV is the shit for exhaust work but it only works well with no crush gasket on really smooth/flat flanges. I use it in conjunction with doughnut gaskets though and it works super well on my shitty flanges and cobbled together exhaust

Great info guys, ive been chasing a p0420 which im 99% sure is due to an exhaust leak around my 02 sensor somewhere after doing some exhaust work. Looks like im picking up some copper rtv.

+1 can confirm copper rtv on doughnut gaskets with shitty flanges and cobbled together exhaust

The mid flange is nothing but two pieces of metal so I shoved a gasket in there and then copper rtv. The header to downpipes had a bad leak and it’s almost all gone. I just need a better way to clamp them since the studs broke and I have vice grips holding them currently together.

Got the truck back together and went for a drive. Seems to drive well. I’ll do one more drive tomorrow to finish breaking in the gears and then a shake down run next week and trail hero the following. Also picked up a new tool. A 1955 Cincinnati tool master mill. Should be fun to play with.

It blows my mind how young you and literally everyone on that podcast is. You are an impressive dude being only 25 and being where you are in life. Shit at 25 I was barely getting married. It’s funny though, the way those people on the podcast are it all sounds like a bunch of dudes I would wheel with any day of the week. People who just want to build cool shit and wheel hard trails. I just wish I wasn’t on the wrong coast

Haha thanks man. Played my cards right, didn’t go to college like everyone told me I should and got a good job. Gave up racing dirt bikes to buy my first house and have lived debt free besides the house and my new truck. Got lucky with smart parents who are good with money and taught me to be the same. Now if I could stop buying so many old tools and car parts hahaha

pretty much what it is haha. Bunch of cool guys building rad Toyotas who like to drink beer and wheel lol. Never met most them but hoping to one day.

And on that note I’m probably one of the few 25 year olds out there who daily’s an 89 Toyota pickup 100 miles a day for work when they have a brand new diesle tow rig with all the amenities lol. I’m a simple guy who likes old cool shit and wants to build cool stuff.
