So I began the idea of adding some Toyota stuff to the man cave that no one else has... I had the idea of an FJ 40 grill with dimable led lights. I began by sourcing OEM 1965 parts from eBay. They were in rough shape.

Each part was individually purchased, and broken items like the Toyota emblem had to be found and replaced.

    Primed after sandblasting.

    Painted.

    Wired and completed.

I think it turned out better than expected. Lights are 110v LED Edison bulbs that are dimable.

This looks great. I would love to have one of these in my man cave. I saw one similar to it in a bar years back, but it was a CJ2 grille (possibly an MB, don't remember). It had dim flashing headlights. Neat idea!

I sourced the parts over a couple months and tried to get deals when I could. The bib (main grill part) is the most expensive at $200-300. Then the rest vary depending on condition. LED Edison bulbs and dimmer were the cheapest part. WHO WANTS AN ORANGE ONE THOUGH? I painted mine an original FJ 40 color.

Wow, another project to add to my to-do list! Thinking of doing a 70s Toyota pickup grill.

Sorry for asking on such an old thread. This turned out so nice and I am thinking about doing the same thing. Do you mind sharing how you rigged those headlights? Thanks!

I took an angle grinder to the back of them, cut a hole in the rear. Got some sheet metal and drilled it for the sockets, and glued them in. Wired in a dimmer so I could dim the led Edison bulbs almost all the way down.

Added PVC pipes to keep it level on the wall. image.jpg

Finished about a year ago. My buddy painted the grill in Light Olive 6L4. A color only used in 1983 I believe. Then had bezel powder coated (an unknown) white. I rigged up a section of expanded steel with a strip of scrap wood and painted both flat black. Then installed a 69-74 toyota grill emblem.

I then very carefully drilled 4 holes in each headlight with cheapo diamond hole saw bits off Amazon and epoxied LED xmas lights in each that are wired to come on with the garage door light.

Getting bored and needing waste more valuable time on frivolous things I just recently added Peterson Beehive 110-15 lights and wired two of the same xmas lights into them. I mounted these to the back expanded steel, so I didn't drill into the grill.
