what about the noise. The TSB mentions:

Some customers of manual transmission equipped, V6 FJ Cruiser and Tacoma vehicles may
experience a slipping feeling in all forward gears and reverse. The center section of the clutch disk
may have separated from the friction material section of the clutch disk. Installation of a new clutch
disk and clutch cover (pressure plate) is required to repair the vehicle. Follow the repair procedure
in this bulletin to address customer concerns.

Could the "seperation " of material be causing a loose part that rattles?

Is your truck still under warranty? If so take your truck into a Toyota dealership and explain your issue.

I did, they said it was "normal" but that seems to be standard procedure at dealerships...any thoughts?

when you say the exact same thing...do you mean what the OP mentioned? (noise in neutral) or what the TSB says?

Dont remember what the problem with mine was but at about 25,000 miles i wasnt able to shift gears easily. Coudnt engage first at all with the engine on and 2-6 were really tough. The day before i took it to the dealer it got so bad that i had to turn off the engine, engage first and turn the car back on and take it from there. And on the day i took it in, i had to drive it in 1st all the way to the dealer with my emergency light on lol. Hope that helps... havent had a problem with it since. Not so sure about the neutral thing cause mine still does that, it doesnt bother me though just dont put it in neutral when going over bumps.

I have a clutch disc that has completely separated from the inner hub. toyota has argued with me about replacing the clutch, calling it wear and tear. the clutch didn't feel weird, just made a loud popping sound when it went, there was no warning or anything that i felt.
thanks for that tsb up there, they'll smile when i show them this one.

I always felt like my clutch was weak, but I haven't really felt slipping once the pedal is released and the clutch is fully engaged.

I have just over another 4000 miles before I hit 60k. If it's going to go, I wish it would just go now.

Guess what I talked to Toyota today and they say the TSB PDF that is on here and 10 other sites is wrong and that this exact clutch problem is NOT covered under the 60 month 60,000 mile warranty But by the comprehensive warranty 36 month or 36,000 mile. I honestly believe either someone at Toyota fucked up and I was informed it was amended march 12, 2010. I am furious and feel there will be a law suite coming

Yea.. I can't say I've ever seen a clutch do that. If they have a TSB for it I would think it would get covered since its a very odd failure. (in my experience anyway). Seems to be obviously a fault.. That being said, what corporate says goes.. Your dealer can't do it for free; you or corporate has to pay. Consult corporate and if you can find others, get a group to sue them(saves money).

Just an update I took it to anoter Toyota dealership the service manager says he sees no signs of abuse blue glazing or burning pad he says it's exactly what the TSB lists and shows because the TSB t-sb-0385-09 shows a picture on it!! It is exactly what the tsb says and shows and I can't believe I get stuck with the bill I got a mortgage payment and a 550$ truck payment and even paid for extended 7yr 100,000 mile warranty. And this is rediculouse. I'll keep y'all informed. Just be careful driving y'all it gave out just shifting luckily I wasn't towing my boat up the mountain

My truck does this all the time. When I'm in neutral going over bumps it sounds like all the gears are rattling.

Shifting into 1st over 10mph is very difficult, but not impossible. You need to really push it hard to get the gears to grab. Shifting into second is also rough sometimes, but with enough practice you can get it perfect. You need to get used to the clutch engaging really high. My shifts now are always smooth, but the first 2 months of owning it I was always clanking and chirping and revving like crazy.

Hey The rattling isn't what this TSB is for u would no if this tsb happened as u would be dead in the water with no drive like if you had spun a axle or broke a u joint Where is the rattling coming from? Is it when your off road and put the breaks on hard? And as for shifting down to first from a higher gear would be difficult because it's kinda a safety feature so u can't shift from 40 mph to first and blow your engine the truck has amazing Low gears that's why it jerks when starting on first from gearing and torque also provides great granny lo. Or equivalent in 2nd gear in low and it climbs like a tank. That's why I love it. I had shaking and had a bad u joint right up at the first drivline which I got replaced for free and it made a huge difference I'd check that if you have shaking when starting out in first gear
