I get about 17.5-18 in the city and 20.5-22 on hwy depending on my speed and winds. Im pretty happy with it. Im on 265/70/17 ko2s C load and running SFOB 91 premium tune. Gas mileage was the same on stock tune but less power and response. They say mpgs are supposed to improve with the tune, i only ran 2 gas tanks so far so its still settling in.

My best was 24.7 mpgs on the hwy, that was going 55-60.

You can still select regular cruise control on 2018s and up.

But i do really like the adaprive cruise, i think it works great.

My 07 ranger with 4.0 was getting 13 mpgs in town and maybe 15 on hwy. That was after i installed pro comp steelies and 265/75/16 E load duratracs. It was a bit better stock but not by much. This taco is a huge improvement, its bigger faster and gets way better mpgs.

I use 6th in town all the time, rpms about 1100-1200. Unless you are hammering on the trottle its perfectly fine. If i see a slight hill, i will downsift to 4th to not lug the engine. I usually shift between 2-2.5k rpm and that seem to get me the best mileage. In first, i would sometimes go up to 3-3.5k rpm depending if i need to get moving quicker in the traffic. 5th I barely use, the ratios are so close to 4th, I think its mainly there for towing.

I’ve tried not to even think about this so soon but how many miles can I expect to have on the truck before the mileage settles in? How many miles before it’s considered broken in?

I’ve put on 265/70/17s, leveled the front with 5100s, tuned, and removed the air dam. I’ve been getting 16-17 mpg around town. I didn’t think this was too bad for a new motor.

Ive noticed no real difference in brand new vs broken in mpgs.

    I get about 14mpg city with 2” lift, 275 / 70 / R17 at 35 PSI on my 2017 TRD OR.

Max I’ve ever hit on the highway is 19 MPG.

I have been trying to shift at higher RPMs. I usually would shit at 3.5, but now trying to get up to 4.5 or higher.

1st to 2nd is where I’m struggling to find the sweet spot. What’s everyone usually shifting at there? I know traditionally speaking you want to get out of 1st ASAP.

If im not in a rush, i shift out of first around 2.5k rpm. But in quick traffic, it could go up to 3.5k and sometimes even 4k since first is a very short gear. Regular driving, 90% of time i am staying below 3k rpms.

Nice. I tried but did not want to force it, i havent been able to do it yet. Was a lot easier on my ranger.

If I'm trying to be reasonably quick and keep the person behind me off my bumper when I shift, I get up to about 4k so that I'm still at least 2k when I get into 2nd.
If I'm really trying to get on it I rev up over 5k so I'm closer to 3k in 2nd.
For just lolly-gagging along I'll shift between 2-3k, but I'll have no beans in 2nd.

Was alot easier on my 85 4Runner also...its very doable tho. Not going to win any drag races however

When I filled up today the truck computer said 18.2mpg for the tank. Fuelly said 17.6 for the tank.
I log every tank in Fuelly and it's been about 0.5 to 0.6 mpg below the truck computer every time as I recall.

This is typically where I shift too. Might try double clutching and see how that feels.

I didn’t buy the truck for mileage, but man do I sometimes miss my Honda Accord and fueling up once a month or less.

My previous car (mini cooper) I averaged 28mpg and filled up every 2 weeks during normal usage. Since July with the Taco I've been averaging close to 18 and haven't quite fallen into a consistent fill-up routine yet.

2016 TRD OR with 152,000 miles. All stock. I average around 22mpg city and 19 highway. I very rarely see rpms over three thousand for any of my driving. I love how dynamic the valves are on this motor. They make all sorts of driving possible and really smooth out the power curve.

edit: I live in hilly/mountainy East Tennessee. If it were flat I could probably eek out a few more mpg. And, if I were to install the front air damn from the base model I could probably eek out slightly better mpg.

If I'm not going to be above 40-45 mph I don't use OD. Around town and on a lot of rural roads I'll never be driving any faster than that anyway. You don't always get best fuel mileage at low rpm. The engine has a sweet spot and I get better fuel mileage when not in OD at those speeds. The truck has more power if you need to speed up to change lanes etc. And I have an AT. It isn't any problem to select the proper gear with an automatic either.
