Ok - dumb question time - what do y’all mean when you say 5th and 6th are overdrive gears? Thanks in advance.

The gear ratio is less than 1:1. Basically a gear that reduces the engine's rotation to be slower than the wheels are rotating (kind of an oversimplification).

Here's what I found for the gear ratios for the Tacoma's MT:
    upload_2020-11-22_21-52-46.jpg

So you get a lot more torque in 1st gear, but you can't get to a very high speed. With an overdrive, you sacrifice that torque in favor of a low RPM, which is fine for cruising because you don't need the torque.

My gear physics is rusty so someone can probably provide a better science lesson than me.

Ahh gotcha so it’s a nomenclature thing for gear ratios lower than 1:1.

Yes, all original drivetrain. I’ve only had to replace suspension struts and ball joints on the truck due to a lot of dirt road driving over the rears.

Clutch will probably be needed before 200,000 miles. I can tell it’s coming by how the throw out bearing feels. Currently doesn’t slip so I’ll keep milking it.

I had one for 4yrs before the Taco. It was new and unreliable, but it gave me the off road bug. So, I got the closest thing that I could.

There are days that I really miss riding it to its limits, but the Taco makes me happy. That is something that I didn't think I would ever say about a 4wheeled vehicle again.

I just completed a 400 mile road trip in my 2020 TRD Off Road from Indianapolis, IN to Knoxville, TN. Managed around 22.5 MPG and completed the trip on one tank. I was actually surprised, lol

Ya, I've always wondered how reliable those things were.
Not as reliable as the beemers they copied eh? LOL

Yeah. In 2012 / 2013 when I was looking, folks were saying that they got their act together and were reliable enough for commuting. Flat out lies.
-- GB opened under warranty for 1st / 2nd shift fork problems. It was sent to HQ for the fix.
-- It started dropping out of 3rd under load after the warranty was up. I took it apart and found the issue and that they botched the first fix.
-- Then the con rod roller bearing cage fragged and the misinstalled wrist pin retainers manifested themselves at just 16,000mi. I rebuilt it. While doing so, I found the friction plate splines were toast and wearing the output shaft.
-- Just 4k after that, the FD bearings lunched themselves. I rebuilt it and sold it.

A friend bought a 2014 new and had a whole crop of other issues.

2wd plus reverse were killer features. The worse the weather got, the more fun and capable it was.

Sucks about the issues the Ural's have. They are such a sexy looking bike.

Manually calculating I get between 17-17.5 usually. I think I'm at 6700ish miles and i have had the truck for 13 months. 60/40 highway city, usually keep it around 70 mph on the highway.

15 overall MPG, but I have a roof rack on the cap and the cab and run Duratracs. Around the city is a joke, I’ll be happy if I get 13 MPG. I drive about 75-80 on the highway usually and can get closer to 19 on a long trip.

13 mpg in the city? Damn. Do you drive pretty agressive? The canopy and roof rack shouldnt make much difference in the city. My mpgs were pretty much the same with or wthout the canopy. I can easily get 17 in city traffic, im on 265/70/17 C load ko2s.
