Better shocks on the OR too based on my test drive experience. The Sport bounced all over the place with chincy Hitachi shocks. 2 or 3k (not even 10%) more for a much more capable vehicle. OR is a no brainer based on my analysis. I mean you're already spending what 35 or 36 g's? What's another 2...

I'm finding that the hill-start-assist is driving me crazy. There is a decent hill at an intersection on my daily route home. All my previous vehicles have been manual junkers, I'm quite used to starting on a hill with only a few inches of rollback. I'm used to fighting gravity and the slight reverse motion.

Now I'm fighting the brakes of my own vehicle, with no idea when they will actually let go. It is... Very Different. I've taken that hill 3 times with the new truck... Stalled twice, tore-ass across the intersection at almost full throttle once. I won't call it bad until I've had a few weeks to adjust.

Hopefully it can be turned off. I know in most vehicles it can be.

I have owned a few WRXs haha. All modified. I loved everyone of them. But it's time for a change! I've always wanted a Taco and this Gen 3 is enough to bring me to the truck side of things!

Glad to hear some more positive reviews of the Manual. Long live the manual! :burnrubber:

I don't really have any complaints, it's just that the ECU and I are still getting to know one another.

The hill-start thing has GOT to go though :p

I have always had manual tacomas and never hill-start. Will probably take some getting used to. Is there no overide button? Also, does it still activate when in 4-lo?

As posted in the Canadian thread, I test drove a manual and auto back to back tonight and came away preferring the auto by a long shot. And I've been a manual driver my whole life. Which leaves me in a shitty predicament, as double cab autos are only available in LB in Canada and I wanted a SB.

    • The auto felt smoother and faster.
    • The manual had a weird power spike around 3000/3500 RPM that felt like turbo lag.
    • My last vehicle was a 300hp tuned coupe which was super fun to shift, while rowing the gears in the Tacoma gave no pleasure.
    • Other practical considerations: my wife doesn't drive stick, so I'd have to teach her. Its nice to have a free hand with baby in the car.

After owning a 3rd gen V6 manual for a couple days now, I can see why some drivers would not like it. Its definitely a manual transmission for drivers who are committed to manuals. I don't think too many people would buy a 3rd gen manual on a whim. It shifts like a truck; its notchy and stiff, and can't be shifted with a couple fingers and a limp left ankle. Driving one for a while makes you want to chug a beer, grab your crotch, belch, and make random grunting sounds. I love the way it drives, and I personally think the 3.5 is better matched to the manual than the auto. Its no Honda Civic, though, and anyone looking for an easy driving manual will likely not be happy with it.

I picked up a manual today....sort of on a whim. I originally ordered a DCLB OR BBP but the build date wasn't until mid November and I needed the truck immediately. Local dealer only had a quicksand mt....never seen that color in real life but I loved it.

I drove a jeep YJ for 4 years, and occasionally drove a 2500 Cummins for towing, both in manuals. Compared to those it is super smooth. It likes to snap/slide into gear....I imagine this is how most manual cars are? Very fun to drive though some windy hills. So far I like it a lot!

The tow package is definitely available with the MT. Mine is ordered that way.

Got about 800 miles on my MT TRD Sport now, liking it more and more. Coming from full-size manual 4x4s and an Outback XT turbo manual. Drove a '16 Auto OR as well, manual seem much quicker off the line. Driven over a few 10,000' passes so far and surprised how well it pulls. Definitely doing more down-shifting on the downhills than on the climbs.Engineer.jpg
