I think "100" people are up here complaining, or just asking about it, is because when a person spends 35-37k on a vehicle, they expect it to shift pretty normally and go into gear pretty normally. Not have to pause 5 seconds between shifts and wait for it to line up. Never said I owned sports cars in the past or expected this one to shift like a sports cars. I just find it strange that a car that was wrecked, rebuilt, and only costed a few thousand shifted way smoother than a brand new vehicle. I've also driven other trucks as well, Ford and Nissan, that were manuals that were smoother so I don't really buy the whole it clunks because it's a truck. Reason why I asked before is because if a lot of people say it shifts so smoothly, then why do a handful ask about it being clunky????

    I've always
yeah i know and i don't quite get it either... are they all expecting it to be just like a car? i just sold a subie with a STi shift kit in it. the thing's spread from 1 to 2 is like 2.5 inches at the top, maybe less. i don't want my truck to shift like that! i love the feel of this thing. I'd consider a shift kit at some point but I'll have to get bored and restless first. i have long throws and a heavy tall knob, so it's kind of its own feel and suits the truck and me both.IMG_20170626_210641.jpg

I have a complaint about my 5 speed Tacoma, it only has one shift lever and a dial that's easy to confuse with the ventilation fan control. I long for a real 4x4 with 3 shift levers like the good ones from the old days.

I miss the old 4x4 J Shifter from my old 2000 Tacoma instead of a dash switch too

When I went from my Impreza to my 2008 Tacoma it definitely took a while to adjust to the transmission. That being said, I've had no issues with how the truck shifts. No clunkiness or "waiting 5 seconds for it line up" or whatever. It's the first truck I've ever owned, so I'm not really familiar with how a manual truck "should" feel, but it's still a fun manual to drive and I'll never give up the third pedal if I don't have to.

I went from a WS6 to the Tacoma. The only thing I really had to adjust to was the weight to horsepower ratio.

I have no complaints about my 2.7 l with the 5 speed. Apparently my truck is blessed, I haven't had any of the problems I keep reading about.

I cam across an article about a South Carolina woman that was more or less saved by a manual transmission. Ladies and Gentleman, be sure to teach your daughters to drive a manual, it may come in handy. http://foxlexington.com/news/nation...-from-kidnappers-threatening-to-rape-kill-her

PS. I love a manual transmission as next as the next guy, I'm surprised that there is almost 300 pages of stuff to talk about.

I recall a guy on TTORA being held up, grabbed his wallet and truck keys and the thief jumped in his truck then jumped back out and ran away cause he could not drive a stick.

So, here's a query I'll toss out there...when/if Toyota announces no more production MT on Tacoma, whatcha gonna do?

Status quo? Trade up? Hoard every shiny new one ya can find and store in a plywood Styrofoam Peanut filler with gracious amounts of silica gel packets so ya can have one later?

    I'm torn...

As long as they have an AT/engine combo that doesn't suck, I'll happily go back to that.

I'd like to run this one until the wheels fall off if I can though.

The Manual Option is one of the major attractions for me, not sure what I would do.
