The manual 6 speed in truck that wasn't 'stripped' is what made me buy a 2017 Tacoma... just picked itSmartSelectImage_2017-10-14-20-52-21.jpg up last weekend and loving it!

So, did the 4-bangrs get the stronger transmission?

I see that the 4cyl Aisin R156F is updated for 2016 with better 1st gear syncros and has 23 spline output, and is similar design to Jeep/ New Venture Ax-15 and NV3550, and all the V-6 2gen (RC61F) and 3gen (RC62F) Manual trans are 19 spline output. That seems a little weak to me. I was planning on a SASing either a 2nd or 3rd gen manual trans truck, but 19 spline output is pretty weak to be running 1 tons and fo d's. I will say that I was unable to find the diameter of the 19 and 23 spline outputs.

Plus I've been reading about all the horror stories of the 2nd gen Throw Out bearing failures, and there being no real fix.

Back to the drawing board, anyone make an NV4500 adapter

The last two days my truck has made a strange noise when pushing in the clutch to start it for the first time of the day. It's a 2nd gen btw (2015 with 18,000 miles).

Yesterday it did it one time and I couldn't get it to do it again so I didn't know where it was coming from. But today my door was still open so when I pushed the clutch in I heard a metal on metal clunk noise so I released the clutch and pushed it in again and it happened a second time but wouldn't do it again after that. It's definitely coming from under the truck and happens as the pedal is moving downward near the end of travel.

Have any of you guys with the 6 speed experienced this? If so should I worry or is this just another Toyota 6 speed quirk?

Thanks in advance for any input.

My new '17 is my first MT in over 20 years, and it puts a smile on my face every time I get in. I look for excuses to drive places, just so I can get behind the three pedals and shift lever. The low first gear is awesome. I haven't driven a vehicle with this low a first gear since I drove a 1/2 ton "airbourne" Landrover back in '91. The low first gear makes this thing feel like a tank, as if there is nothing in the world it wouldn't drive over or through.

The funny thing is, I had every intention of getting an AT, but no dealership within 250 miles of the Bay Area had an AT short bed in the color we wanted at the time, and I asked my wife if she would mind driving an MT and she was excited at the idea. Best car decision I've ever made.

What does your wife think of the truck. Does she enjoy shifting?

She texted me today, "I LOVE OUR TRUCK" (caps included in the original text). Hahaha. She loves it, manual transmission and all. My 18 year old daughter also drives manual.

I drove a manual for the first time. Now I see why there's a thread.
