That’s quite creepy, I’d hate to see the other items that company sells!

Got this off Amazon for $25. It's a genuine Toyota product intended for a Lexus (I believe). It's a tad smaller than I'd like, but once I drove with it some, I really like it. Definitely like the looks better than stock knob!

I don't even remember being taught or when I actually learned. Probably on my first 3speed Honda minibike. But, my first vehicle at 16 was a '80 Toyota 4x4 4 speed with the reverse gate broken and no power steering. So, you had to hold it over in reverse while turning the no-power steering wheel one-handed.

    New T-SB-0186-17 (tranny whine) part:

Here is what your $100+ will get you. New part on the left. If you can find some heat proof sound deadening material, you can save yourself a lot of money by coating the original part.

Replacing the part is a bit of of a pain in the ass. Unless you have flat index and middle fingers, you will never get the upper-rear bolt started to replace it. You can remove it with a wrench, but getting it back in is damn near impossible. I suggest pivoting the catalytic converter brace out of your way by removing the two upper bolts and loosening the lower bolt that goes into the converter flange. The bolt that goes into the converter flange will likely require a breaker bar to break loose.

12mm socket / wrench for guard bolts.
14mm socket for cat. brace bolts.

    upload_2018-7-23_18-37-53.jpg

    Good luck.

That looks like the heat shield that covers the damn accumulator. I agree that the top bolt is a PITA to get out and back in. A cold motor is a must.

I don't understand the reason for the TSB though? Is there a heat issue?

I mainly looking for more feel from an accumulator delete that I keep slacking on.

I was surprised to see the accumulator under the shield when I removed it. It was an "oh, there it is!" moment.

The TSB is for a high pitched whine from the manual tranny at certain speeds. The deadening material is supposed to alleviate that. We shall see.

Thanks! I haven't heard of that issue.

That is an easy fix though. Good stuff.

What are you thinking about? MTS and CC or other stuff? MT OR and Pro come with ATRAC that uses a hydraulic brake booster. MT Sport, SR, and SR5 come with TRAC that uses a typical vacuum booster. The hydraulic booster allows higher pressures to work with the ABS / traction system.

The Sport seems to do well offroad, in my experience esp once you ditch the front swaybar. A group of us (MT Sport stock, AT OR stock, and JKU Wrangler lightly modded with AT or MT tires) all got stuck on in incline in heavy melt snow. I worked my way out with a lot of struggle, the OR was solidly stuck is all modes except CC set to snow, and the Jeep got winched, but they backed into a ditch that high centered them.

The systems can be enabled / disabled depending on what you are in (2Hi / 4Hi / 4Lo). There is a really good sticky about it:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-traction-control-modes-explained.530695/

Depending on how you are setup, there is engine regulation of the throttle. But typically, the default mode for 4Hi and 4Lo in the Sport does not limit the throttle.

Anyone developed a gear splitter for reverse yet? Still the only thing I don't like about the truck after 8k miles.

In a way. @BigWhiteTRD has a reversible (LoL) 2Lo mod if you are mildly into some soldering.

Like everything, I've been lazy about doing it. I have a seven switch panel from mesojdm that I need to install first.

I wish I had the patience to wait for the manual Tacoma. When I was in the market for a new truck it was one of the “wants” to go back to the old school manual. I found that they were hard to come across in my area and with all the geeky tech stuff I wanted. I’m secretly, and I guess now publicly, jealous of you guys with manual trans.

Or a fj cruiser twin stick tcase conversion. I'm going that route. A friend of mine has a 3rd gen with a 3 speed crawler box before the tcase. Under drive, direct drive n a overdrive. It's pretty cool.
