Noticed you have a second gen. Are these part numbers good for first or second gens or both?

    Nice catch!

I used the same "older" part numbers when servicing the '04 I used to own and my son's '01 so, while I'm not a mechanic, I found them to be good for both applications.

Thanks a lot for putting that parts list together. I was able to find this kit on ebay for a relatively cheap price that includes all but 2 of the required crush washers for a full fluid change (technically missing the transmission ones). The way it works out though, you could surely get away with using 2 old crush washers on the fill side (less dangerous) of the transfer and transmission while using the new washers on the drain side for both.

Still DK why people change these gaskets so often. I've changed my fluids in diffs/tranny/t case several times and reused the original.. no weeping or leaking whatsoever. It's your money I guess :notsure:
My bike has the same type of metal gasket for the oil and if you ask people on the forum where to get a new one they'll say why bother? If it ain't broke don't fix it

While the gaskets are cheap, I don't think replacement at every fluid change is necessary. I just replaced all my fluids, kept the same gaskets, no issues so far. Change them if you want, and have easy access to getting them, but I would say its far from being essential. I'll revise this if things start leaking. So far its been about 1 month.

I used this thread to change the Trans and transfer case oil change yesterday... here are some details, sorry if some of this info is a repeat of above info...

Transmission Fill plug is 24mm and is located on the driver side of the trans about 1/2 way up the trans. It was more forward toward the motor than the drain plug. The drain plug is on the bottom of the trans near the transfer case. I used a 24mm socket to remove both. There was enough room to use a tall quart bottle of 90wt gear oil (all gear oil used to come in this type bottle) with a cone-shaped cut away screw-on tip, so thats what I used to fill it. the Redline MT90 bottle tip was oddly sized and would not fit in the fill hole so I poured it into the tall quart bottle I had, then squeezed the bottle to get as much fluid out as I could. there was normally about 1/4 left in the bottle after squeezing it but I had more oil than I needed (bought 4qts for the job). My Transmission was filled at about 2.75 quarts of fluid.

The transfer case also had 24mm plugs. Both fill and drain plugs were on the back face of the case pointing toward the rear of the truck. I again filled the tall 90wt bottle and squeezed the bottle to fill it. My transfer case took 1 quart.

A pretty simple job any beginner should be able to do.
Ill be taking on the differentials in a few weeks.

    Thanks again for everyone's help

I have the w59 and the transfer case is supposed to be a chain drive. I ran 75w90 Lucas Synthetic is everything: front/rear diffs and tranny. I left the transfer case alone since it sees a fraction of the use everything else sees. 60k miles later I plan on changing it all this week and wanted to know if it matters for the diffs and transfer case for that oil to be gl4 or gl5? I’m looking at ordering the Redline mt90 for the tranny via Amazon Prime but needed to know how much to get. Otherwise I’d just do the tranny in mt90 and get more Lucas for the diffs and TCase locally.

If you get the gallon jug of MT90 you'll have about 1/3 of it left over from the transmission drain/fill. I forget how much it takes exactly but it's not the entire thing. The others (diffs and tcase) you want to use regular 75w90 not the mt90...that stuff only goes in the trans.
Redline makes a normal 75w90 as well but imo it's overkill...the diffs and tcase just need a simple non-synthetic gear oil. The Supertech stuff from Wally World is cheap and works great.

Spending the extra $$ on MT90 for the transmission however is worth every penny, it'll smooth out the shifts very noticeably

And while I'll always suggest using new crush washers with every fluid change, I'm guilty of reusing old ones as well in a pinch when I forget to order new ones. Not the end of the world. Just double check the torque on the plugs a day or so after you change the oils and make sure they aren't leaking.

I have always refused gaskets and never had an issue. MT90 is overrated, I never noticed any difference in shifting between old gear lube, regular synth and MT90.

Like I said, I put Lucas synthetic in everything. The tranny has started to be slightly harder to shift the last 6-8k miles or so. The Lucas with Prime is out of the time frame for me now. Anything commonly stocked at parts houses that’s gl4?

    Here’s what I have in my notes for a 1999 3rz 4wd with w59.
    -front diff-1.2 qts.
    -rear diff-2.2-2.8 qts.
    -transfer case-1.1 qts.
    -tranny-2.6 qts

I would not put mt90 (GL4) in the tcase. Stick with a GL5 75w90 oil.

    That’s what I was thinking.

Straight GL4 is hard to find locally. Everything is either gl5 or listed as bi. May just have to order Prime and hope for the best over the New Year holidays.

So I didn't see this listed specifically, is this Redline MTL recommended for transmission on a 2002 3.4l tacoma with a mt?
