I have'to seen a pattern thus far as far as manufacturer location and date. Although my first assumption was that only the Off-road model was having the issue, although it turns out the Sport package has also had the same issue (manual 6speed). The common fix for those with this issue is a trainy swap, which was done for the guy who started this thread. Some of the people with this issue have a truck last year after June, mine was made this year in April so the answer to your question is NO they haven't fixed the issue.

For those who were lucky not to have the problem couldn't be happier with the truck but for us who have our experience is completely different.

13k miles. 60 mile commute each way to work. 6 4-wheeling trips on the truck in 4lo (locker used frequently) and 4hi. Zero issues. Sorry you've had a rough go with your Taco.

Yea trying to get as much info I can even started a post in build date problems to narrow it down, but I think it doesn't matter as you said it's across the board....

Has anyone contacted the service manager at the dealer you got it replaced....be worth its weight in gold to see if he got a report back from Toyota on what the problem is.. I have called a bunch of dealers asking about this problem, they all say they gave never heard of issue....maybe it's few and far between on this issue....

One thing is a fact there are way less manual transmission out there for 2016 maybe not even enough for a recall or worth Toyota to put the effort in to fix the problem.

Right now Toyota corporate says there is no issue or 1 case of this problem..

My dealer brought in a transmission to replace, but then toyota said wait they dont know if it's any good and they are doing a tsb, basically toyota hasn't quite figured out what parts in what transmission are good, and pretty much need to have their supplier re-check sizes/tolerances... this is such a pain in the ass.

You think they could find a truck with a issue and if they have to buy that truck back from whoever and give it to a tech transmission guy in toyota and say hey figure it out, or take the messed up tyranny and test it in a test truck they have....since everyone in the toyota company world says they have ever heard of this problem I really don't think they give a shit they don't care if it gets fixed or not!!

Update: After around a month of waiting and wait and phone calling and calling and calling. I got another call from a girl at Toyota Canada, she had no new news on what they want to do. She said they haven't even decided on what they want to do yet. FFS this is rediculous. It's super dangerous to drive now It gets stuck in gear all over the place, you let throttle off before the hill try to get it out of gear, can't so you drop 30km/hr instantly.

Get your shit together toyota, replace the transmisison.

I will never buy another toyota again, will sell this truck next year, what a turd.

I have been trying to gather information on when my transmission gets stuck in gear. The drive train has to be hot. I have to be in the same gear for several miles. It seems to happen when going down hill after a hard climb up hill.

The first dealer in Sandy, UT could not recreate the problem and sent me on my way. My home dealership in Santa Fe, NM did some quick checks of the transmission and told me to run the engine at a higher RPM to circulate more oil in the transmission. Neither worked. The dealership insists that there has not been a single complaint about the manual transmissions being difficult to shift out of gear. I am trying to get an appointment with some sort of district field engineer.

So far I'm not impressed with my transmission or Toyota.

    Love my 2000 4Runner.

They are just jerking us around until there is a completed tsb, instead of doing the right thing and just replace the transmission they are jerking us..... What a shitty experience having this truck, so many major problems so far. Not talking about noises of squeeks...

    Update:

Spoke with Toyota Canada, they said there's nothing they can do right now, and they haven't decided if it's a real issue or not yet. Is what I was told.

Spoke with the dealer manager, nice guy actually. They looked up inventory on the transmission's and there's no stock available with a wait list for new ones.

Who knows when they will be back in stock.

Does it not come out of gear no matter how hard you shift or does it just take a lot of effort? If no matter what, then that is a huge safety issue. What if an accident happens or you need to slam on the brakes then shift quick to avoid something in the road? Are you just stuck lugging in 6th gear or even worse, stalling?

If it takes a lot of effort but still shifts I would stay on toyota and ask for weekly or bi-weekly updates and just shift hard. Eventually, and unfortunately, something will break and they will be forced to acknowledge you. I would also document everything and set up a dash camera filming every drive. Narrate it when it happens or better yet point the camera towards the shifter.

Sorry you guys have this problem, I don't know if I'd even be comfortable driving mine if it did this.

Yeah no it doesn't release you can pull as hard as you want it wont come out of gear, if you apply firm pressure to the stick you wait 3 full seconds then it releases. It's a huge saftey concern, I was doing a left turn downsift from third to second and just about got t-bonered. Because guess what couldn't downshift to get a decent drive. Same with losing 30 km/hr on the highway when trying to downshift and you are locked in 6th haha.

If I didn't "need" my truck for my hobbies I would have parked it, toyota or dealer have not offered to give me a rental, I really hate driving the thing because it kind of sketchy when it sticks in gear... And in canada we have no lemon law.

I have a manual transmission as well and have noticed this issue, typically after driving over two hours. I usually end up just forcing it out of gear when it comes down to it because I need to downshift. Not sure what the problem is, has anyone gotten the issue resolved?

I have a few road trips and my work commute of an hour one way and have experienced no issues, but I did replace the stock fluid with Redline MT-90. My results might not be typical.

I had to contact my dealer's general manager to move forward at all. He finally contacted some sort of district representative from Toyota. The district representative wants to drive my vehicle to see if there is a problem. When? Well, when he gets down to Santa Fe. No hint as to a calendar date. I'm feeling a definite run-around. My dealer is still insisting that nobody else at Toyota has heard of this problem. I even supplied them with a link to this thread. We must all have really creative and identical imaginations.

I have an engineering background and my guess is that we are experiencing design/manufacturing tolerances that do not adequately address the thermal loads on the transmission. Large tolerances equal less expensive parts. However, I believe, that we have gotten caught by the down-side of large tolerances.

I just called corporate Toyota. They said I should bring it in to my dealer and have them re-create the problem.. They also said that no one has reported any similar issue yet that they have on their records which is odd as there are multiple people on this thread that have called in. I guess I have to take this to my dealer and hope they can "re-create" the issue.

Reference Number Toyota gave me: 1607081673

There are piles of people with this problem, I have been trying to get it resolved for months, the only thing you can do is apply pressure to the shift lever and let the tranny spin up, eventually the gear will release after a few seconds.

They are completely lying, as they did to me, I called again today and said they don't think this problem exists. Which is total bullshit. Toyota shame on you (funny I am on the phone with toyota corporate AGAIN for the 20th ish time, over the last 6 weeks.) Toyota refuses to do anything.

WTF TOYOTA. wake up. Every vehicle will have problems, that's OK. Now step up to the plate and fix them. For Christ's sake, this is getting ridiculous. I feel for you guys with this issue. Knock on wood I have not had this problem with 12000 miles on mine nd lots of long drives. Fingers are crossed.

I've watched the poll numbers in this thread since the beginning and it has pretty constantly sat right around 1 in 4trucks that whole time
