I saw in the service advisor's hand when I was at the dealership. I cannot find it online but it does physically exist.

    Good news!

My VIN doesn't pull up any active TSBs but I had the dealer do a search while I was there getting a new differential. He eventually found the TSB. It does exist and I do have a copy of it. I'll post it later tonight when I can run it through the scanner.

    I'm so excited.

Very interesting. Resolution makes it hard to read. I wonder what exactly is causing it.

Admittedly, I'm not a transmission expert.

I believe the detention pin holds the truck in the selected gear until enough force is applied to overcome a predetermined threshold when it releases and allows the stick to move.

Apparently the original detention pin was dimensionally incorrect for the job. Maybe is had too tight of a tolerance and swelled with the heat.

    Just speculation.

Look guys I have been wanting a V6 tacoma since 2013.... my 4banger taco has been perfect, but here is the shitty part off all of this I don't know what happened to toyota or there quality control issues but after constantly reading all of the 2016 issues on the m/t and all the other pages and pages and pages of all this shit going on and toyota corporate still to this day is lieing saying there are zero issues with the 2016. They will not get my business, I was so stuck on taco I never even looked at other brands. Well need less to say I drove a 2016 ford f150 2.7L ecoboost and all I can say is wow the truck is almost perfect, and with them on sale right now like the one I will get is a super cab xlt for $32,695 cheaper then even a 2017 access cab m/t it's almost a no brainer but I won't have a m/t...... As soon as I drove it I know I wanted it and I have always hated fords, but even looking through f150 forums there is very limited problems in here my guess is 90% of all topics in here is problems and very few on the f150 forums....Also the same truck I was looking to get a inferno access cab m/t sport it was $33,550 now it's gona be 34,279 and to be honest I don't trust toyota anymore for handling this issue and owning up to all the problems. And toyota I hope you are reading this forum and see that you lost me and my family to buying toyota because you don't give a shit.... Guys forget about these trucks until toyota gets there shit together 5 years from now and try the 2.7l out you will be impressed I was and I hope the sale works out..

Well.... Even with the nee transmission, for piece of mind i just dumped my truck. I'm still a little pissed and working with Toyota corporate about it, but just traded in my 2016 TRD OR DC 4x4 M/T for the same truck yet 2017 Automatic version. It cost me $3900. I hate that its come to this, me dishing out more cash for no reason and this will be the first Auto i've ever owned. All im saying is this truck better last and Toyota better have aone sort of compensation or resolution for me. (Feeling sad, lonely and let down :( )

Yesterday I put my truck through some pretty strenuous mountain driving and didn't have any issues.

Driving through the hills for about an hour using gears 1-4 and got on the freeway right after for an additional hour. The outside temperature was 90-95. These were all the conditions where I had previously encountered issues shifting out of gears 4-6. Fortunately I felt no increased resistance trying to shift out of these gears.

I hesitant to say the TSB fix has remedied the issue. Only time will tell that. However, that is the most strain I've put on the drivetrain before or after the TSB had been performed.

While I do agree with you that the Fords are amazing trucks, I disagree with you when you say that Toyota doesn't care. They have fixed the auto transmission shifting issues. They now have a fix for the manual transmissions getting stuck in gear. They have fixed many other small issues that have come up. We have a 2016 Tacoma and a 2016 F150 at home and both of them have not come without their issues. Lots of electrical gremlins in the Ford unfortunately (mostly related to the radio). The biggest thing to remember is: "every vehicle is a piece of crap according to the online forums".

I went for a nice long drive today (over 40 minutes) with a solid 20 of them on the highway in 6th gear at a steady cruising speed. The ambient temperature was above 90°F.

My truck was flawless in shifting in and out of gear. I stopped and was out of the truck for approximately 20 minutes and jumped back in and after 20 minutes of driving it didn't stick.

I cannot comment on everyone's truck, nor the future of mine, but I can say as of right now I'm fairly convinced my truck has been fixed.

A great test is to find a 5-10 mile stretch that is about 30-40MPH and slightly hilly (up's and down).

You'll be shifting between 3rd and 4th and sometimes 2nd. On the downhills as you slow and downshift to 2nd you wont be able to pull the shifter out of 3rd.

If this doesnt happen to you, then you dont have the issue.

With my transmission replaced it's night/day difference. When i first received the truck it was my first "truck" manual tranny, and i thought it was just $hitty so i dealt with it. It was always slow shifting and not smooth. After the tranny was replaced it was so buttery smooth, that I could jump in anyone's truck now and tell them if they have the issue just by driving the truck in the flats.

So if you cant do the hilly 30/40 mph run, if your truck doesnt shift as smooth as a car and sometimes molasses feeling when shifting gears it probably has the issue.

I put a down payment on a f150 XL super cab... I searched my but off on trying to find issues with the 2.7L and there were hardly any, I was a Toyota guy and Toyota does not care. I sent copies of the work orders off replaced transmissions and from info on this forum as they're out of transmissions to fix this issue and even gave them the tsb number and still as of Monday they are still lieing saying there is no issue nor is there a fix or a problem to be solved. I told them because of there lies I am buying a Ford because I can't trust this company anymore. The Ford is alot faster than any truck out and I got it cheaper than a Toyota....the price raise and all the lies were to much....guys trade them in a get a Ford they have way more room with less problems and haul ass it's a win win..... just test drive one go to the f150forum.com I think that's it, it's the biggest one like Tacoma world....as soon as I drove it and researched it alot it was a no brainier....and i used to hate Fords.

Sounds like you had an issue with the independent dealership and not Toyota as a company. Big difference. I could find you the exact same experience except just flip the manufacturers. Oh wait, I have a story about that which involved brand new Ford (2015) electrical issues resulting in legal threats until finally it was exchanged for a 2016 which is now occupying the other spot in my driveway beside the Tacoma.

Dealerships can be brutal. I'm lucky that where I bought my Toyota has been great. Any concerns I have they take the time to look it over and make the corrections. I just called about this TSB in question and they said that they'd absolutely give me a fix next time I'm in.

Enjoy your new Ford. I'm not trying to discredit them as a company; they do make fabulous trucks. That's why we have now owned four of them. But I simply believe that you have just had a poor dealership experience. You can always pick up the phone and call another one.

I completely agree with this. I went through 4 dealerships 1 of which sold me a 2015 trd sport MT brand new come to find out 6 months later that they crashed it on delivery fixed it in house never told me. Needless to say its how I ended up with a brand new 2016 of my choice on their dime. Won't go back there ever or to the other 3 dealers who never fixed things I requested fixed. I thankfully found a great dealership now who is outstanding in their service. I too was losing hope in Toyota but its the dealerships that are the problem.

    Good luck replacing those turbos.

Ha replacing/rebuilding turbos is easy and not that expensive. Especially when compared to replacing the entire frame.

There are forums and my family is a tester for Ford and the 2.7l with the turbos are just about unbreakable... another guy has drove over 100, 000 miles on a 2015 without a single service department visit....the 2.7 has no issues it is why I got it....look I loved my yota but I will not buy something that is gona have problems....it's like buying a Dodge truck, eventually your gona have tranny problems. I live in WV with alot of mountains and alot of big rigs I can't risk hauling my boat and truck getting stuck in gear going 70mph on a mountain....and anyone who would bye a 2017 until all issues is fixed is retarded.

They both have there issues, Toyota quality control problems with something as simple as low tranny fluid from last Aug 2015 and all this year after numerous complaints they still to this day have not fixed that simple problem...but one thing is a fact you can't fix stupid, we and including me believed in the old Toyota narrative they might rust but they will last forever it has no issues as did my 2013 4 banger no issues....but Toyota has turned into a crappy screw our customers business..... maybe some Democrats took over Toyota. All I know is the old Toyota narrative doesn't exist no more.
