I got the replacement pin today. Not really what I was expecting. It is a shaft with a ball bearing at the tip. One side has a flat spot down the length of it. My guess is it let's oil slip past it, in which the only way to fix it is to buy the old part and grind less off. Since I don't know what the original looks like I can't say that this is the change they made or what the function is. Just my best guess

Manual transmission has a break on the clutch so when you release the clutch you sit there for a few seconds before the clutch releases. Automatic Vehicles it is called Hill assist, don't know what is called for a manual. Feels like it grabs high but isn't if you're at a stop on a hill and the truck will not move for a few seconds when the clutch is released

Every vehicle is different, this one just engages a little higher. Mine as well as everyone elses is the same way I believe. You get used to it.

hey, this got my attention. i have my truck on order but don't have it yet. for me the whole thing is about my 6MT and 24-7 clutch control.

would someone please explain this brake on the clutch for hill holding? is this another interfering electro nanny? if my manual is stealing clutch control away from me i'm looking for another vehicle, simple as that. but i haven't heard anyone complain around here so far. anything to say about this?

It's just a hill holder clutch, similar to what Subaru has been doing for years. Not a nanny or computer controlled clutch. Also not available on the TRD OR 6MT.

It isn't on your truck. TRD OR doesn't get it.

I don't know the specific implementation that Toyota uses (I have an OR, no hill holder) but it likely has nothing to do with the clutch itself. The systems I'm personally familiar with are a function of the transmission or of the brakes, I don't know of any that work from within the clutch assembly alone. The older style brake units from Subaru you could just loosen a cable to deactivate, the more recent electronic e-brake units activate that system, but can be switched off at the dash (4th gen MT Outbacks work like this), trans units are pawls that prevent rollback in 1st with the clutch in and to the best of my knowledge haven't been used in anything since the 80's. My best guess for the Tacoma implementation is that it's all contained within the braking system similar to the way they do it in the automatics, the ones I've used (Prius, Avalon) are driver activated, once at a full stop press down hard on the brake for ~2 seconds to activate the hill hold, dash light comes on, once the pedal is released the brakes will hold for a few seconds or until forward motion is detected. Light pressure on the brake at a full stop will not activate the system. Once again, I'd like to stress that I have no idea whatsoever what Toyota's specific implementation of the hill holder is in the Tacoma, but I suspect it is the last example and will not be something that gets in the way (or can be removed/disabled).

Damn, that's unfortunate.. I would take it back to the dealer and let them know that the gear shifter is loose when in gear, that shouldn't be a thing to a brand new truck.

Update on my service that I had today: they were able to re-create the issue and is ordering the parts for it today

    Hello all!

I just recently bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD sport and I've been experiencing these exact issues. Gears sticking in 5th and 6th when trying to shift. I called Toyota and there is a Technical Service Bulletin for this issue. The TSB number is 0088-16 and it describes all of the issues that have been talked about here. Only some 2016 tacoma's are effected and it seems to be random.

I'm taking my truck in for service this week and I will report back.

    *UPDATE* (9/12/16 1:00pm)
I took my truck into my local dealer and they wanted to test drive it to verify my claim. I went out with a tech and replicated the issue. JUST TO CLARIFY this issue for me only happens if the truck has been on the road for over an hour and has been left in gear (5th or 6th) for an extended period of time. (15+ minutes) They are going to replace two parts related to the issue, however the parts necessary for the repair are on national backorder (for USA) and won't be available for some time. . . good and bad news I guess. I will update again when I know more.

I'm having this issue as well. Unfortunately my dealer in Canada hasn't heard of the issue and because of a different country can't look up the TSB. Maybe worth printing it out and at least showing them?

So my truck has been doing this for quite some time. It will get stuck in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and/or 6th. I tried to explain to my boyfriend what was happening (this is only my second manual, first truck) and I told him before he asked, that yes I was depressing the clutch all the way. Then finally it happened to him! I took it to Toyota this past Saturday and they couldn't replicate the issue but to bring it back if it happens again.

It's really scary when you're driving and you can't pull it out of gear or put it into gear! I'm worried it's going to cause an accident before anything is rectified. I didn't realize that it could be long drives but after reading this thread - I have noticed that it happens more on longer drives (no matter the weather and in nearly all of the gears). I bought my truck at the end of May and it has about 8,700 miles on it.

Just wanted to see if anyone has had an easier time getting Toyota to listen since this thread has been going on for a while? Any tips on how to get them to listen to me? I also have video evidence but I only recorded it after the dealership looked at it (the same day, actually). Has anyone been successful with showing their videos?

This makes me sad as it's my first Tacoma, my first brand new vehicle, and also my first vehicle with issues...

I took a video in, didn't help, but your results may very. What worked for me was bashing them in Google reviews for not fixing a known issue that could be deadly because it requires long drives and it didn't happen. Try the video, and print out the tsb of the issue and raise hell. It's an easy fix, if you give them enough problems they will fix it just to get rid of you

    Update: Issue solved!

Took it in to the dealership and they couldn't replicate they also couldn't pull up the TSB because Canada... Called Toyota Canada and explained to them the issue and suggested they import the US TSB into Canada. Few days later dealership called saying the TSB is in now, they ordered the part and just had the work done this morning!

Mine did the work without being able to replicate it themselves. If your dealership isn't willing to try asking another dealership. Print out the TSB and bring it to them, the fact that they have a service bulletin for the issue clearly means it exists and like you said there's times being stuck in gear could be dangerous. Keep pushing them!

There is a TSB out on it .don't know what it would have to be duplicated. I brought my back 3 times they could not duplicate but when PSP came out they went ahead and Screenshot_2016-08-03-20-41-26.jpg formed TSB on it.
