Crawl under there and get at all the pivot points with Disc Brake Grease, I found that to be the only grease that stays put.

Has it been good ever since you had the TSB done?

Well went up to Payson from Phoenix this weekend and definitely experienced the stuck gear problem. I will be calling Camelback Toyota in the next few days with the TSB#.

My concern is that my truck is a 2017 and not a 2016...I thought Toyota said they fixed it in the ending 2016 trucks so you wouldn't think it would be in any of the 2017's.

That's right. That TSB was for 2016 Tacoma models. I believe they did correct it for 2017.... unless you got a 2016 transmission??!! I doubt they changed it for the 2017 models except for a corrected shifter ball to avoid that old TSB

We shall see what happens. I have an appointment on Monday. I ordered the truck April 2016 picked it up about September so I would not be surprised if it has the 2016 transmission.

With those dates I'd believe you do have one of the non corrected transmissions with the shifter ball that is responsible for the problem. As I remember the new ball has a different detent and comes with a total of three part packages. The Toyota shop foreman told me it was a bit difficult to access for repair and entailed dropping the transmission down just a bit for easier access. There are no external linkages I was told as in the old days. Everything is inside the transmission according to the foreman. I've never had a problem since it was replaced. I also had them drain, filter and inspect the transmission fluid and replace it with new. I was concerned the shift problem may have damaged the transmission. They found not even the expected fine metal hair shavings in the drained fluid

I was able to accomplish all this after finding my dealership shop unable to locate the problem. I myself found the TSB here on this site. Then I contacted Toyota customer service and had a personal rep help me. She sent two big wigs from corporate who were upset with the dealership because I the customer was able to find the remedy and TSB they weren't able to. I was given immediate free service including the fluid change. I even asked the foreman to ensure me they didn't reuse my old transmission fluid since that wasn't indicated on my service invoice.

I hate going there. Have a problem every time
Recently they changed a damaged rear tire and I had the clerk write do not damage wheel in giant red letters on the work order. The mechanic used a metal putty knife to remove the old wheel weights and carved about nine deep gouges into the wheel paint! Now I have to take the truck back to their body shop to have the wheel repaired and repainted.

I don't like shops that have big concrete walls you can't see through as they service your vehicle. I know they don't do everything by the book nor do they take care. But I'm married to them for the 25,000 mile initial warranty at least

Luckily I bought a six year extended bumper to bumper full warranty ( but actually Toyota corp stops supporting at three years and 36,000 miles so the warranty is under a Toyota subsidiary)

    Best of luck

Ok. If I remember correctly it's TSB-16-0088. For the stuck shifter problem common with earlier 2016 manual shift Tacomas. Dannyblues

Im going in today and have the TSB printed out so hopefully I dont get a lot of pushback. I have worked with Camelback Toyota in the past and between the family and I we have about 5 Toyota's from Camelback so I will easily fight if it comes down to that.

The TSB paperwork I am bringing in is for: T-SB-0088-16 "Difficult to Shift Out of Gear After Long Drives"

They replace part number 33292-0K010 with 33292-0K011 (PIN, Lock Ball)

I tried that before l traded, it was adjusted correctly but l got it to move down very slightly, just did not catch till all the way at the top. My 17 is better but its even slightly on the high side.

Truck is at the dealership they are having one of the service techs take it home for the night because he lives 40 miles away. Hopefully he recreates the issue himself and calls it a done deal.

They should have just taken your word for it rather than going thru all that nonsense.
