Helps them build the case they say blah blah blah...I agree with ya and am not a fan of my truck staying the night at some techs house.

They did it with my truck. It allowed them to verify their fix didn't work and act as my advocate with Toyota Corporate.

There is a definite change in how they approach an issue when they deal with it themselves as you would. It's hard to take someone's word for something when you've never really experienced it before.

They were nice enough to give a loaner Rav4 to zip around in and they are always friendly. I'm guessing it will all work out alright.

Toyota called they couldn't replicate the issue so they aren't fixing it at this time and they told me it actually has the new part already. It has been filed for now until I see and report it again.

that makes no sense... it has the new part already? they couldn't duplicate? whu?

call corporate and open a case.

and i think you probably know that the part, the detent ball, can be purchased and replaced on your own.

Yep I'm frustrated but will hold out till it happens again. I already emailed corporate and will be asking the dealership for proof that it has the new part# in it.

Truck isn't even a year old and they already hassling about repairs...fun

But if it already has the new part, then they would be tearing into it for nothing.

Agreed, I called the dealership back and told them that I would like documented proof that it has the new part# already installed. They didn't pull the tranny apart to determine this the advisor said they were able to confirm this in Toyota's system.

I will also be taking the truck out this weekend to see if I can replicate the issue myself. I will record myself trying to yank it out of gear while driving 55+ down the highway. lol

They never could duplicate mine either because you had to drive it for 4 or 5 hours before it acted up. In the end I called corporate, politely bitched, reminded them that it was a stupidly cheap part that they were hassling me over, and they got the dealership to do it even without verifying the problem.

A quicker route would be to just skip the service writer and go straight to the service manager.

You called corporate just through the main Toyota website?

Right now I just want to see proof that the new part# is the one already installed.

I don't remember what number I called. I googled something like 'Toyota complaint line.' I can't be more specific because it was many months ago.

I think the same number can be found in the 'Contact Us' part of the main Toyota website.

Picked up my truck and a printed out page showing my VIN and the new part 33292-0K011. I guess its happening with the new part as well....at least on my truck.

The TSB print out they attached to my invoice has different wording under the intro section. Old wording says "may exhibit difficulty when shifting out of 5th or 6th gear" new wording says "may exhibit difficulty when shifting out of ANY gear" the revision is dated 10/18/16

What I did was to call Toyota customer service headquarters and it's very very important to get a case number. As I did because of more than two failed attempts by the dealership shop including one with the district field shop representative was to get an actual name and direct extension number to a specialist customer service rep who sent the district field shop representative back a second time plus another big shot from the Toyota corporation to meet me the third time. It was easy to do this because my complaint with the dealership shop and Toyota in general was that I myself found the TSB on this site and not their master mechanics. I embarrassed them greatly!!! They were all waiting including both corporate guys and the dealership manager and foreman plus three mechanics and the dealership customer rep. They were ordered to do the TSB immediately. I also requested a free transmission fluid dump through a fine painters filter to check for possible metal fragments that may have been caused by this long ongoing condition. They did that and didn't even find the normal fine shavings ( at about 11,000 miles and within about maybe six months ) Then they said they refilled my transmission with fresh tranny fluid. ( I didn't see transmission fluid indicated on my receipt so I'm suspicious they just refilled my tranny with the original old filtered fluid but when I mentioned that to the foreman he said they refilled with fresh tranny fluid ) ????

That dealership shop is a mess. After running over a second screw at Home Depot I needed a second rear tire replaced as it wasn't repairable. I had the service rep at the desk write in huge red letters: please do not damage wheel. When I got the truck back I immediately inspected the wheel and the careless mechanic scraped up the wheel with a putty knife to remove the old wheel weights. It was gouged right into the paint in nine places. I have to make an appointment with their body shop to have the wheel repaired and repainted and leave my truck for the day and take a loaner. My TRD has nice grey/ black 17 inch mag wheels. It's just an unnecessary shame but I bought my Tacoma from them so I'm married to them for at least the first 25,000 miles.

At the 10,000 mile service I requested they lube my driveshaft as there had been reports the early 2016's were sent out with improperly lubed driveshafts so they said they did. Who knows? I can't see through a brick wall into their shop. When I asked the mechanic said there were only three zerk fittings and the other two were factory sealed. I think it's possible he didn't remove the access cover to locate the other two. It's possible but Toyota had different zerk and grease arrangements in 2016.

Good luck but really it's best to have a case number. And why is it up to you to find the TSB instead of your dealership!! I make noise. But I'm polite and understanding. After all they are working on my truck and I don't need any enemies doing that. Let me know how it goes

Damn thats a bit to go through!

I like the dealership as much as the next guy and generally dont have any problems with em. I know they have steps to follow so for now Im being patient. Service rep did tell me to bring it right back if it happens again and they will get the case started. Since it has the correct part# installed I am willing to hold off to see what happens on my next drive to Payson or wherever.

this happens after the truck has been driven for over an hour. they test drove for 45 min. insist it is because we dont know how to shift a manual. i buy manuals for the reason i like control and not a computer driving my car.? when they realized i was a woman, they assumed i dont know how to clutch. i m livid

this is a huge flaw in the 2016 and now the 2017 manuals. from what i have read and talked to the local courtesy driver, there are huge issues with the automatics, with no fluids in differential from the get go at the factory.
i have had manual transmission all my life , and for some f@#k to tell me i suck at driving , is an insult . i motocross bikes, this is pathedic. toyota quality is not what it used to be

I went to Branson several weeks ago. By the time I got to Springfield I noticed my 2017 starting to act up. Hard to pull out of 6th, and hard to put into other gears. I took my foot off the clutch and then put it back on the clutch, and it stopped being persnickety.

Still does it on occasion though.

    I'm at 7000 miles
