My truck has only had this 'stuck' condition a handful of times in 36K miles and it was always easy enough to muscle out of gear. Although the stuck condition was rare, it felt 'different' coming out of 6th after a stretch on the freeway almost every time. In my case, the new pawl was a perfect fix! Truck shifts easier through all of the gears and is most noticeable coming out of 5th or 6th after a long stretch. I highly recommend this update if you have a '16 that is affected, even if the problem is not as dramatic as some here have reported.

I lucked out on that one, early production 2016 M/T and have never had it happen to me.

I had 1st gear stick once. I had the clutch pedal to the floor and I could hear the gear grind pretty loud when I pulled on it twice. I had to release and press the clutch pedal again to shift out of 1st gear.

Is there a TSB that applies to the 2017? Bought mine in February 2017 so it's an early 2017. Got stuck a few times when new. Now has 25K, took it on two 300 mile round trips the past month, and I'll be damned if it's not doing it again. Seems worse this time.

When I get it out of gear, if I take my foot off the clutch and coast for a bit in neutral, that fixes it. But it comes back and is annoying.

I would take it in regardless. You still have a warranty that should cover you anyways. If they ask you can tell them that there is a TSB for 2016 MY trucks.

1000 on mine, no problems, but I am about to take it on a 3500 mile trip, so we will see.

True. I'm just hoping there's a TSB because I hate playing the "couldn't replicate" game.

If they try to play games, you must be polite but firm with them. If not, then just go to a different dealer.

Or call Toyota Corporate and get them to force the dealer to fix your truck if necessary.

I have had this issue with my 2017 a few times, and now my clutch has failed at 11,000 miles. Dealership is trying to blame me, of course. Any ideas on how to approach this? Could the TSB be relevant here?

I would call Toyota Corp. file a case with them directly. Dealership should have to prove you are fault. The least they could do is easy stuff like check your clutch master/slave cylinders for air, check clutch pedal free play, MT oil level before they blame you for burning your own clutch.

They are calling me in to look at the clutch this afternoon. Should I go ahead and open a case at this point? Not sure how all of this works.

work with the dealer until they will not assist you any longer. they will wind up your service order, and take that info with you for your call to corporate.

I wonder how I would handle something like this TSB for the 2016 when there are clearly issues with the 2017s as well. Any ideas?

I would try to be graceful and let them do what they can before escalating. Remember be polite but firm.
