Same here. Holding out for the day when/if they upgrade to another engine, unlikely for a while, i know. Oh well, figure i got plenty of life left in this one :amen:. This is the only vehicle i have owned that hasnt given me any real issues or major gripes, just tiny ones, lol. Also the only one i havent wanted to sell in 2 years, believe i am on year 4 or 5 now. I cant see myself selling it either. Probably pass it down to my oldest and rebuild when/if the time comes.

You dont even have to. You can get some sweet manual, and diesel JDM trucks now that were getting legal mid 90s trucks in. My plan is to import a land cruiser single cab truck with the diesel V8 one day. (Many more years until thats legal)

The taco all reliable that it is, is built like a toy compared to international market trucks. USA gets the bad end of the deal with gimped trucks compared to the rest of the world now.

What kind of manual disesels are available?

I drive a badass Hino diesel for work (Toyota, made at the Hino Plant in Japan) and it’s an absolute tank!! Told my boss if diesel was free I’d DD it aha. 230k miles on it and runs like it did brand new. Will easily go 400-500k without trying and we abuse the hell out of it.

Check the many importers of gray market vehicles. Mostly from japan.

You have Hilux surf, mitsubishi pickups, pajeros, nissan/toyota vans, Land cruisers to name a few.
Can you imagine a 3 locker 80 series cruiser with a 5 speed manual and a 4.2 turbodiesel Inline 6???

Yeah they are coming in now. Low miles too compared to our 200k+ market

Many of the importers do requests too. Prices areVERY reasonable for alot of Japanese vehicles considering the mileage is alot lower on cars over there. Japan is not the place to hoard old vehicles unlike the usa where its pretty doable lol.

The answer to the new 3.5 is unfortunately regearing. it is expensive but was the best mod I have done. I have a 2019 offroad MT on 33's .. I went to 4.88 gears. Still did not make the engine feel torquey down low but at least made it tolerable.. especially helped out the insainely high reverse .

There’s a 2WD low mod, works great especially for reverse

Up until this year you could get a manual trans Dodge Ram with a diesel

    https://jalopnik.com/this-is-the-last-year-you-can-buy-a-new-full-sized-pick-1831744609

Not anymore though, unless you get a used one. But who wants a Dodge

You talking about the HINO 338 conventional medium-duty or one of the older Cab-Over HINOs.

Very very unique sounding diesel and it’s a beast.

I use to drive those in the yard at my old job. They use an engine called the J06 i6 diesel. They sound pretty good.

It’s built completely fine for its intended use. If you want the biggest and baddest, you could always see about getting a bulldozer. But then there’s always something bigger, so I doubt people like you would be satisfied.

    Perspective.

Agreed. I love it’s downshift/engine braking sound. Weird? Yup, I’m weird lol.
