If the 3rd gen MT is as much of an improvement over the 2nd gen MT, I'd say MT.

I've yet to find a 3rd gen MT truck to test drive. I went AT on my '14 and miss shifting gears.

I have driven many manuals in my life, now, because holding a cup of coffee is more important than shifting gears, I got an auto. If I want to go manual, the auto tranny will allow me to do so without the clutch.

Bought an auto mainly for the extra options and because I was told my ETA was 5+ months for the manual I ordered. Now I'm selling the auto to get a manual. I've driven both drive trains in this truck enough now, the manual just feels right, the auto has been aggravating.

Mines auto, but only because I can't get the TRD OR 4x4 AC in a manual here. If I lived in Canada, I would have got exactly what I wanted, but oh well. I don't have any use for the DCSB, I needed the longer bed. I love my truck anyways. If they ever give us the option for a stick in this exact configuration, I will trade in a heartbeat though.

You can't do that with a stick? Where is the fun in that?

Manual because my last two cars have been and I didn't want to give it up. Plus 4.3 gears, there's so many complaints on here about the sluggish engine/gearbox combo but I don't feel that way with the manual at all! Plenty of power when I need it. In fact Car & Driver tested the manual Tacoma it seemed like they enjoyed it more and it was the fastest mid-size truck.

Manual. I have always driven a manual since I was 16, had one auto and I regretted it for 3 long years before I went back to the manual. Driving experience is pure bliss and is a theft deterrent. ;) :burnrubber:

the better i become as a driver/operator, the more a MT vehicle means to me. after 40 f'ing years with a stick why on earth would i let a crap slush box and poorly programmed computer weakly attempt to do it for me and fail? and then complain about it? lol. oh yeah, because coffee. o_O well, to each their own. (i may be old but i'm not that old yet... all 4 limbs are still working more or less).

Now that manuals have hydraulic clutches I was up in the air. The old manual clutches were work , these new ones are so much easier . I went with an Auto for using to back up trailers .

Wanted an Off Road pkg, Access cab.
45+ years driving a manual. The '68 FJ40 which I've been driving for 46 years, and my '11 Subaru Outback are manuals.
This is the first Auto I've ever owned. Having driven it for 9 months do I ever miss the manual my '02 SR5 had? Not a bit. But then I thought I'd miss flying too after 35+ years in the sky. Don't miss that either!
    The '16?:
    19MPG city.
    23 Highway.
16-17 MPG Towing the 2500lb A-Frame pop- up.

I can't understand why they stopped the AC Off Road Manual.

More bed space was more important than telling the truck what gear to be in.

I already have a manual transmission to enjoy in my sportscar, I don't need to have it in the truck.

I have the auto. I've had manual cars previously, and loved them but I always just preferred an automatic for a truck for some reason. I do miss the "on demand" connection with manuals, but crawl control has been fun :p
