Sold my manual Taco, waiting on my auto Pro. Just my opinion, but it felt clunky and a chore to drive the MT in the Tacoma. This is coming from years of driving manual cars.

    We have crawl control too.
    4L + A-Trac + Cerebral Cortex = Crawl control.

Our crawl control is a lot more engaging and fun than just twisting a knob and turning a wheel.

Addendum: Yes, I know I can't control braking and power to each tire in real time, but I learned some tricks from an old grey haired rock crawler and have a few grey hairs of my own.

I mean isn't a-trac + 1st low range the same thing as crawl control? It just keeps you going without gas/brake which a manual does by design. I always assumed that's why it isn't on the mt's. Now multi-terain we just don't have. Noboby knows what it does anyways.

To answer the op, manual all the way. I had an auto for 9 months before I traded it in for a manual. Some people are fine with an auto, some auto drivers wish they had a manual, but I've not seen one manual driver who wishes they had an auto. To be fair I didn't have any complaints on my 18 auto, I just missed driving a stick.

You may wait longer for a buyer but you will be able to command a more "rare" premium.

At the beginning of this year I took my 2012 OR 6MT (70k miles) to the dealer, to see what they'd offer on trade-in. Just for a laugh. They asked what I was hoping for, and I said "Well I know you guys gotta eat. How about $21K?" Their eyes bugged out and they said they wouldn't be able to do more than 16, 16.5 tops.

I laughed and sold it that weekend to a private buyer who drove all the way to LA from Fresno to collect. Got $24K.

I had to be patient and deal with low-ballers and tire kickers, but the guy who bought it didn't want any other truck.

Though this was a 2nd gen with the superior engine. Your resale may vary.

The reason they can't include "Crawl Control" on a manual is because it would have to slip the clutch in order to work the same way. Slip for a torque converter can be controlled very easily.

In a manual the only thing controlling slip is your foot. Do it well or smoke your clutch. Oh, and you get a slightly lower gear ratio than the auto as a consolation prize.

truth here. crawl control is literally atrac with cruise control on the throttle... cus folks are too dumb to use their own throttle? I'll leave that unanswered.

All I know is I am glad my wife decided to go with the manual (never even drove the auto). We don't need all the fancy computer controlled off road modes, if we decide to go off road, we can handle that stuff ourselves.

Added benefit, now we have a vehicle that we can use to teach our kids to drive a manual (son has his licence, daughter is 2 years away).

Not worried about resale, it is what it is...heck when she decides she wants something new, I might keep the Tacoma and trade my F150 (not because I don't like my F150 but it will have near 150k miles by then while the Tacoma will probably have less than 50k...it will depend on whether we plan on getting another camper though, if we do, the Tacoma can't compete with 1800lb payload and 9000lb tow rating. No gain in mpg by keeping the Tacoma either, it's rated pretty much the same as my V8 F150 that has 100+ more hp and only weighs 550lb more).

$35k for a vehicle.... I’ll go with added creature comforts via an auto transmission.

Plus my girlfriend is able to drive me home from the camping if I exceed my recommended dose of burr

I like how you say “manuals are always out of stock” as if that’s an argument to buy a manual because it’s rare.

Toyota makes less than 7% of their Tacoma’s in the OR/Sport/Pro trim with a manual transmission. This means that for every 10 auto Tacoma’s you will have 0.7 manual Tacoma’s.

I’ve grown up driving manual vehicles, but if I’m buying a truck new, in the configuration I want, in the color I want... I’m going to have keyless entry, a warm ass, and my truck is going to do the rowing for me.

We should have a discussion on Hood Scoops vs. Crawl Control next just to really start a holy war.

It is just a point. I want a manual and no dealer in st louis could locate one in stock within 300 miles at the time or if there is one in stock it was spoken for. Obviously people do not buy manuals as much anymore...that is common sense 101. I am just stating that people do still want them and no it will not hurt resale value and yes I know this being in the business since 18 years old. Take Care.

I came to the Tacoma AT because I hated my FJ MT in traffic.

That being said, I kept my FJ because I could. I have not driven the FJ since I purchased the Tacoma.

The reason why is my dad commandeered it and loves it.

Ha. So true...had a valet at a hotel tell me he had to call a manager because only the manager knew how to drive MT.
