My father taught me my three most important lessons in life:

Always treat others with respect, always keep a gun in the house, always keep your tools organized, meaning keeping your most useful tool - a truck - in the garage. If you need more passenger room, ADD to it, don't replace it.

Those translate into living peacefully with others, defending your family, and keeping yourself able to maintain your household.

When I fall for a woman, she will know this right off the bat.

surprised no one mentioned this yet (if you did my bad) but one of the biggest causes of divorce is finances. not being able to afford the basics - including a truck - is going to put such a strain on the two of you, you will probably never make it. i'm not saying you gotta be rich to get married, but alot of people just think that puppy love is going to see them through everything. eventually reality sets in. please trust me on this one. living in a basement apartment eating ramen noodles and driving a rusted out shitbox will eventually wear thin and you'll wind up resenting her, no matter how hot she is.

if you are really unlucky, she'll convince you having a kid will bring the two of you closer together. bzzzt. then you need even more money!

at 22 years old, here are three things that you should be focusing on (my opinion only of course, and i'm married with 3 kids and in my forties):

    1. Bang everything that moves, and never, ever forget your condom.
    2. Focus on what you are good at, and what it is you want to do in life, and pursue both with a vengeance. If you love what you do, and are really good at it, the money will find you.
    3. Do not give up things which make you happy, in order to make someone else happy. Either she accepts you for who you are, and what makes you happy, or she can go pound salt. Once you start compromising who you are, you are done.

Good luck man. And remember, there are ALOT of fish in the ocean. If this one gets away, there's ten more just around the corner.

Why would you have to give up your truck to get married? She should be paying her own bills and by combining two incomes w/one household, you both should have MORE money, not less. And dude - settle down after 30 - maybe!

OK, I can't believe I'm about to do this...

Me giving marriage advice is kind of like Gee Dub giving presidential advice... but.. er goes.

Dude: most of the responses you have seen so far are a big 'hell no'. Do you think that is any coincidence? The answer is no. Most of dudes here have been in just about the same exact situation. Maybe it wasn't the age thing, but everybody who responded has probably had some sort of relationship/marriage where the other (usually her :p ) asked for more sacrifices than can bear. This happens overtime and creates tons of resentment.

I too got married at a very young age (younger than you are) and it turned south when I didn't even expect it to. I'd wait. I say the ideal age is 30+ (just my opinion). Most of us who know a young marriage in friends/family know that it usually didn't end well.

Also, not sure who, but somebody earlier posted that marriage is obsolete. They are absolutely correct. I gave up everything for my marriage and it sucked. I regret every bit of it, although at the time I wanted to do everything to make it work. The fact of the matter is, any valuable article you read all state the same common theme: Be yourself, give up nothing, and your spouse should just be a compliment.

Signed - the guy who picks the worst of 'em

P.S., when you are 28 yrs old, you are going to be looking at the 23 yr old hotties... not your 38 yr old wife...

    Damn.

Truck doesn't care if you test drive other trucks once in a while and if you trade in your old truck on a newer model it doesn't cost half of everything you own...just saying.
