Oh! By trade? I didn't know that. I'm not the right size for that kind of work, except on tractor trailers. :anonymous:

You never get all the Assateague off the truck, check under and around the frame.

I figure when i have to do exhaust work, i’ll chop the muffler out, cut open the frame and build in a patch. I’ll brace the c channel inside with pieces, paint them and then box the outside and paint it. I plan on gobbing some sort of undercoating on the whole thing before winter as well.

As dor the fender, i’ll glue in some metal from behind, bondo the outside, sand/fill and paint as needed then gob a bunch of some kind of undercoating on the backside. I’d love to just replace the whole fender if anyone can find me a black one hmmm

Sounds like a good plan. Just keep in mind, when it comes time to patch the frame, you'll have to remove the undercoating. Probably best to use something like fluid film so it's east to remove. At least for that section anyway. As for a fender, you're better off fixing it. Even if you found a black fender, after 20 years, it would never match correctly. That would drive me crazy lol

Lawn sprinkler, one of the old school back and forth ones that sliced kids feet open when you stepped on them back in the day. Put it under the front half of the truck for an hour or two then move to the back half for an hour or two. Does wonders for cleaning everything underneath.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't do the best you can with what you have though. I go overboard with everything I own. I could never own a beater lol. It would start as a beater but I would fix every little thing wrong with it until it was perfect.

Trans skid *should* bolt on fine with the factory bolts. If you had both trans and t case, that’s when joe supplies the longer bolts.

Not enough bite for the nut to suit me.

    The skids are 1/4”

Bolts i have are 1/4” longer than stock, grade 8, they wouldn’t work on my tacoma, had to buy ones that were 6”

Gotta but nuts and washers anyway, don’t have those

I used to be that way, then I saw how bad this thing actually is.

I’ll get it through this winter, then sell it next summer and hopefully get something else. Like a much less rusty, way less mile 4th gen

When I bought my $500 Tacoma with a seized motor first thing I did was scrub the interior, it was beyond filthy. My coworkers made fun of me because I was detailing a blown up truck. Luckily after many many hours I got it spotless. The cleanliness of the interior was the deciding factor on whether to build it or flip it.

This was me before my camping trip last week doing one of my normal clean up jobs. Yeah, I get under it with detail spray and a rag. You don't?
