You can do hose clamp and put the gatekeeper thing like in your pic over the hose clamp for extra security. I did hose clamp, gatekeeper, cable washer mod & popnlock.

I bent a small piece of metal on my press and welded it to my hinge. Painted with color match and remounted.
I can still remove the tailgate by taking out the 3 bolts, but, this is the 5th Tacoma I have owned and I don't ever recall removing my tailgate.

It took awhile but as we all knew at time of purchase the lock was supposed to fit/work on our tacomas. email and demand refund, I don't see how they can refuse refund and you should not have to pay to return!

Question for those of you who have sent your lock back, have you received your refund yet? I haven't and it has been over a month since I sent it back.

Well they wanted me to send the lock back to them at my expense -NOT, it went something like this - I will not, nor should I be expected to spend one cent for a product that although engineered very well, certainly was not marketed effectively. Had you done you research, its likely your (Note: Does not fit Toyota Tacoma) would have been posted on the site in conjunction with the product release.

A week later $20.00 refund and since I purchased it through ML - it was free shipping.

I received $20 credit back to credit card, did not return lock. Seems like it took 3-4 weeks for the whole process.

I actually didn't read through the whole post, but OP, would it have been possible to take the tailgate off, put the lock on the bottom side, so that the movable part is on top?

Excellent product review and demonstration video. Bummer about the faulty lock design, but thanks for alerting the rest of us!

This is just the case of application specific issues. It doesn't move much side to side on the F150. There is so much room on the tacoma. I bet if you could fit two of them or they made a bigger one for the tacoma it would work fine.

    Hose clamp FTW I say.

I moved the Bully Lock from my 2011 F250 to my new 2012 Tacoma. When I placed it on the 250 in July '10, I put some one sided tape inside the loop to not have metal on paint contact and placed electrical tape on exposed metal shafts and over plastic key hole cover. When I un-taped it last week, it still looked new. Did the same after putting it on the new truck. I recommend this lock, no way tailgate is coming off using it.

Has anyone had problems with the Bully lock?

I think I'm going to order one.
