True... Not helping in the decision. What's your setup?

Hey guys new to tacomaworld and just found this thread. I was going to get the Maxtrac lift installed at a local shop but when I finally got the money they said they were booked until the summer. If anyone on here installed themselves at home. How hard was it? Thanks in advance. Any and all info is appreciated.

It's a pretty straight forward install. Just remove and replace. Can be done in your driveway with a basic set of hand tools. Suggest doing the brake lines ahead of time to save time on install as they are the hardest part of install.

So switching out the lines for the extended ones would be recommended to do first. How difficult is it? I've seen install videos but I know there is a huge difference between seeing something and actually doing it?

For me I had to make a shim to hold the clip tight to the bracket where the upper hard line and the steel braided line meet. I used a washer that had to be reemed out to a bigger i.d. I think it was a 5/8 I.d washer and the brake line was 11/16. I had to do it for the back as well. Not sure if others had this problem though. But that was the hardest part. Just make sure when you bleed the system the key is in the on position with engine off.

If you have to loosen the lower control arms make sure you mark the alignment cams so you can keep it close to alignment

Edit: also check with your local thread. Pretty of people will help for some chow and cold beverages.

Sharpie, whiteout, or a paint pen will do. I did more than just spindals. I replace everything suspension wise from front to back in about 6 hours

Another tip don't worry about the front brake dust shield. Just remove it. it won't fit back on the maxtracs

Gotcha. I'm a little mechanically inclined so hopefully it won't be too difficult. I might just get the shocks installed a day before doing the install to shave some time off. And gotcha no dust shield. Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated man.

Gotcha. Maybe once I get some other items paid off or a sale pops up I may pull the trigger.

Like the others have said it's a straight forward install. If you know what direction to turn a socket & how to bleed brakes then you'll do fine. Just be sure to torque everything to spec. There's a sticky in the 2nd Gen forum that has every torque spec.
