Maxtrac Spindle Lift for 2nd Gen Prerunners

Did you get the standard kit or the race kit? @1nonlygarcia . Also, just for the sake of argumentation, I have +3.5, spindles and -44 offset wheels and I stick out of +6 fenders . You can run 33s or less without fiberglass fenders, it’s going to stick out really wide but they won’t hit the fender on compression. You can install it and daily drive it without fiberglass fenders. I’d get glass before off-roading though

 

I ended up going with the 3.5 race kit series. That was my next question. I wasn’t planing on going off roading yet till I got the fenders and rims and tires. I just wasn’t sure if I could install it with stock fenders.

 

Good choice on race kit, because the other one won’t fit Maxtracs. Here’s mine with stock fenders and 35s with spindles and LT. Since 35s fit then 33s or less will be okay too

 

So with tires should I stay with 285’s or do I need to go bigger?

You had to use a spacer in the Uniball mount, which is super sketchy. Too sketchy for me to tell someone to put on a long travel truck

 

You’ll want to go bigger with fenders. Even 35s look a bit small. I’d for sure stick with the 285 until you get fenders though, and wear them out. Then when it’s time for new tires figure out what you like.

 

Machined steel spacer is sketchy??? There are a few of us out here using this and have not seen a single failure. Hell, maxtrac themselves had me come down to their shop to show them what I did...their engineer was onboard with it after looking at it and taking a few pics. I'd like to hear what your reasoning is that makes it "super sketchy" to use your professional term.

 

I’m too hard on my truck to have a piece that crucial with a spacer in it. That joint is a perfect spot to break the 2 bolts that hold the spindle on. I would at least weld the spacer to the Uniball housing to give it some extra strength. I’m just not a fan of using a spacer to cheap out instead of just buying the piece that fits right.

 

If nothing is 100% perfect, what is the dark side of these maxtrac spindles? There should be some guys with bad experiences to tell around here.

 

Weird that you think that considering the engineer at Maxtrac said that the ears coming off the spindle are the weak point and that most likely those double shear ears will break before anything else does. I even asked about welding the spacer to the uniball adapter plate and his words were you'll add nothing to the strength doing that. He made it a point that the shear stress travels thru the double shears and the bolt and that the spacer is loaded in tension and that the double shears ears would grenade before the spacer does. But hey...I guess I and others just "cheaped out"

 

I seriously doubt that an “engineer” from a company told you that a product they sell would “grenade”... I guarantee you that if you break one of the mounts off the spindle and contacted Maxtrac; they wouldn’t do anything about it. They’d say that having improper size Uniball adapters and a spacer was a dumb idea on an off-road vehicle. But you do you

 

I can vouch for @Airdog! If you think he is easy on his truck LMFAO. There are plenty of guys running the machined spacer @Airdog made himself. I have not heard of 1 failure yet. Maxtrac is literally right down the street

Thanks, man! Now I have to start saving for rear shocks and dakars. I will be using Maxtrac rear blocks in the mean time, that's what marie suggest! She told me that in my case a 2 inch block lift is much better option than AAL. She told me that tapered blocks are fine up to 2 inches and that some people talk crap without any knowledge.

Hey man, what's up. I was wondering what kind of wheel spacers did you run in the rear?

 

I'm actually not running any on the truck right now. Kinda has a trophy truck look with the front sticking out a little more than the rears.

Before I got the SCS wheels I ran 1" in the rear. It matched the front and looked good. (They were just off brand that a local member gave me)

I've recently picked up 2 sets of spidertrax 1.25" (4 total spacers) that I plan to put on when the bumper and coilovers go on next month.

Should make the poke nice and rediculous here she is today

 

Bora makes 0.75" spacers, which is what you'll want to use (or at least spacers of that width) to even out the rear wheels with the front.

-edit- 0.75" is the width delta that I measured on my PreRunner.
