Does anyone know the decibel level of this exhaust? I live in California and can get a ticket for anything over 95db. I already ordered it and plan on installing soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One of the loudest around. Basically a resonator. You’ll get attention for sure.

I'm getting rid of mine. It's too loud for me at high revs. I don't think it's even the sound out of the pipe but the vibration of the $8 muffler. Just today I blindly chose a flowmasters series 50 in 3" I don't not have a clue what it will sound like but it's has at least 1 chamber to quiet it down maybe. A lot of people here seem to like the mbrp but I'm calling it quits. From the outside it's not ridiculously loud

I have the MBRP dual exit exhaust.
It is possibly the loudest of the aftermarket exhaust.
A level below straight piping it.

That being said, another member used a silencer to bring the down the db. But gives it a tinny sound.

I recommended an auger style insert to lower db and kill off drone, and resonator tips to maintain a deep tone through the rev range.

By itself the MBRP is ricey at the upper rev ranges.

I have no idea how they measure the db reading other than by ear. Same db level where I'm at. The mbrp probs one of the loudest for these and are kinda ricey. Only way you can really tell is with a db meter or call them and ask what it's rated at.

Thanks for the help every one! I’m still gonna give it a go, seeing how I already purchased it . I’ll try and give some feedback once it’s installed and maybe get a dB level for anyone who is interested in this exhaust.

Yep, we always called them ‘spiral baffles’ I’ve used them in 1000cc engines and all the way up to a big International DT466 diesel without a muffler. They work great. Really simple and easy to make yourself if you own a welder; although $22 bucks from Amazon is a good deal.....This one with 3 discs will definitely lower the DB’s and you can always add/remove discs if it’s too quiet/loud

Will the muffler insert work on a short bed?

It’ll work on any exhaust pipe, motorcycles to highway tractors. You have to measure the ID of your pipe and order/make one that will fit inside tightly. There’s no point in using one on a stock exhaust though, just an aftermarket one that’s too loud.
The last time I installed one was on my Duramax diesel and I removed the 40lb-ish, stock muffler completely and used the spiral baffle because it was freer flowing. Although the stock exhaust was 3.5” ID and the baffle was in a big 5” ID pipe that I attached with an adaptor. It sounded angry (awesome), not too loud and I could feel a difference with the initial throttle response.
I’ve also seen aftermarket motorcycle exhausts with small, removable inserts right at the end of the mufflers that are called DB Killers. Something like that might lower the MBRP sound enough to pass CA laws. You might want to look in to those too.

So I ordered an MBRP also. By before the muffler you mean in between the CAT and muffler? Just making sure because it looks as though you may have to cut down the insert length. Did you use all 3 "discs" on the insert? Is it even worth this mod in your opinion or would you just send it all back and call it a day? lol

Just FYI . The found the 3" mbrp to be annoyingly loud inside the cabin .Today I just swapped for a flowmaster 50 series 3" muffler and kept mbrp tubing .Tone sounds very similar, still has a growl and now zero drone. It's a good option

Update: just installed yesterday and yeah, it’s loud. I like the sound but I had just installed new speakers and laid down some dynamat in the doors and I feel like the exhaust takes away from the sound quality quite noticeably. On the pro side of things, I do notice a slight increase in throttle response and install was super easy. I did it by myself with just some wd40 and a couple of sockets in about 45 mins. I just ordered the auger insert that was recommended in hopes that it will quiet the cab down a bit. I’ll post again once it’s intstalled.

I didn’t feel like taking my exhaust apart, so I just hammered the insert directly into the tailpipe lol.

Works great! I wouldn’t want it any quieter than it is now, it’d be like having a stock exhaust again. I’m impressed by just how much this little insert makes a difference- no more highway drone! The exhaust no longer sounds “tinny” either. Very pleased with it this way, glad I didn’t spend $500+ on a flowmaster or something.
