Can't find any good of pictures of the engine bay. Does the 2016 still have a mechanical fan clutch or is it now electric?

I'd much prefer mechanical for a truck application anyways. Hell I don't think you will find a current truck with an electric fan anyways.

New Colorado comes with an efan I think, not 100% sure though.

I'd bet an Electrical fan. More CFM at idle, and the computer can adjust speed as cooling needs increase/decrease.

I just googled it, Colorado has electric fan. While I prefer a mechanical fan in a truck the energetic fans have some positives to them as well.

Huh, I would of expected electric on the perhaps flawed basis of slightly more efficient for MPG. Of course probably it amounts to like 0.02 MPG. Electrics are nice for water crossing as you can disable them for the crossing and not shred your fan if the nose dips unexpectedly while the mechanical clutch is engaged.

Good find on the photo - definitely looks mechanical!

till the bearings in the fan fail due to water intrusion. Buddy did an efan setup on his 3rd gen 4 runner, hes back at a mechanical fan now due to it being tons more reliable

Really? Never had an electric fan fail in any of my cars. I like the simplicity of removing them and the extra space between the engine and the radiator.

You haven't owned them long enough. They will fail.

Yeah, there really isn't a 100% good solution. But in general you gamble with with a mechanical clutch and water - and if the blade shreds it can take your radiator with it. Personally I wouldn't go out of the way to replace a mechanical with an electrical. But if came with electrical from the factory I'd add a kill switch for crossings.
