I stayed kinda in the heavy trash area, hoping to squeak something out. My buddies kinda worked all over the (smallish) site. One of them went maybe 100-150 ft. from where the structure ruins were.

I kinda look at it like tracking deer, you may find blood but if you arent going the right way, you wont find the prize...

I've been going every-which-way lately, and it hasn't been working. I'm having a bit of a drought, but not from a lack of effort... I have been spending quite a bit of time swinging.

Was he digging in a trash pit? I know many people specifically dig for old bottles.

Probably a bottle digger if he is digging amongst broken glass.... Although Identifying the age of a site is always my first priority if I do not know beforehand....From what I have seen bottle diggers are mostly interested in pre 1915ish trash pits / privvys.... There are guys I have seen out here that dig out trash pits from the 30s and 40s mostly doing sifting looking for older throw away tokens and other relics from the late 19th or early 20th century that people just happened to throw out later in life. I guess the appeal to that is the trash pits of the 30s and 40s are HUGE compared to their predecessors. Not something that interests me too much but they do find a lot of cool stuff.

I understand that digging outhouses for bottles became a thing back in the 1970's. I know a couple of guys still digging dumps and what not. They find cool tokens and an occasional coin.

Tokens are some of my favorite things to find. They are so unique and specific to certain areas its cool to know the exact place they were used.
