It's just woods beside a road that is kinda a high spot between two swampy areas. I just went in there to check it out. There was obviously a homesite, or something, there. There are LOTS more targets that I need to get in there and dig. I also found the leg from a cast iron stove.
All the old maps that I have seen of the area show no houses prior to 1962, but there was something there before then.

Well, it depends on where I am searching, the soil type and conditions, and vegetation/terrain. If I could only have one coil (that would suck!) it would prolly be Nugget Finder's Evolution 14"x9".

Spent a couple nights in Nevada searching for gold but didn't find a speck. It was a great weekend to be outside! And, I made a new friend!

You know what I’m gonna say, right son? That’s cause you weren’t where any gold is at!!
But it’s nice to have friends! :)

Sounds like you had a good time anyway, and it looks like you had good weather...I miss those open pinyon juniper and sagebrush areas!

So, I went out with the equinox today.

I was on top of heavy mineralized bedrock, and my third swing found the tiniest little flake of gold, and this was a heavily mined area out of Colfax on the American. Pretty spot, long hike, but LOTS of people.

Need to find a flatter area to detect in that hasn't been heavily panned out and see what this unit can do!

Oh... Also found a 9mm round, a bunch of birdshot, and what I thought would be a good find was actually a pull tab under nearly a foot of moss.

Fun stuff, and amazing what the mutifrequency power is.

I just wish I had a smaller coil, I may get the 6' coil but yikes it's nearly 200 and not even a dedicated gold coil.

Going to explore around and see if I can't find a flatop plateau or something to swing on.

Did you say you’re live near Folsom? It’s been a couple decades since Ive been there, but there are some BLM lands along the S. Fk. of the American River between Coloma and Folsom lake I’d try. Also some side canyons there too, and lots of bedrock. There used to be a few gold dredgers working there before they were prohibited. They also had a meteorite strewn field event there in 2012 too- maybe you can find some of that and some gold along with it.

Bring Technu if you do go though, lots of scourge of the Sierra foothills growing all over there! I wasn’t allergic to poison oak until after I lived and worked in Coloma for a couple summers.

Very cool! Sounds like a neat spot!
What were all the other people doing there? Is it a swimming hole area or something?
    Good for you finding gold!!

Those are very nice coils. I wanted to use a larger coil also for quick scanning over large areas, and also for meteorites, so I was looking for a good used Evo too, but you’d think they were a leg or something because people don’t sell those used very often either. I did find a nice 15x12 Commander to try out. I guess if it doesn’t work, well I can always use it for a custom toilet seat cover!

If you go down that road you will likely end up with a number of coils. That's just how it works.
If you go down that road, you'll be in good company! :anonymous:

Strange answer but ive got a poison oak immunity haha. I havent gotten it since I was little, tho I do avoid it when possible.

Find some color, but I wont return there to prospect. It was an amazing spot to day camp with friends tho, the small ravine wall all bedrock, with 14 or so waterfalls that fall into ankle-chest high pools.

Also it was full of butterflies... Which was pretty cool.

Havent checked out the southfork yet. Might go check around Tadpole creek and just swing around for a bit, plus its a nice 4x4 trail that's fun to drive down. Unfortunately to local detector group, gold hounds or something, are mostly very senior individuals and dont go out much anymore, which is a shame. I need a detector buddy in the area for sure!
