i used to be immune to it, even used to do trail clearing for Forest Service on the Stan NF and got PO sap all over my arms with no issues, but its all changed now. I didn’t know the older one gets wirh more contact make you allergic!

Yeah apparently more exposure = weaker immunity.

However, I havent had it since I was a kid, and I for SURE have come into contact with it many times.

    Who knows!

Also look for ancient sediments that are on the Sierra Nevada Mtn range from before it was uplifted- most of it filled in the Central Valley, but there are still some patches.

    Yeah ill poke around.

Ive found the higher you go, the more the ground just turns into crushed stone, very rough/angular. No dirt whatsover, just stone.

Swung around for a bit and found nothing but shot, so im thinking those area a bit too high for concentration. Will have to deduce more

I took geology classes as a minor while I was at Cal State Stanislaus, and we did some field trips in the high Sierra And did stop near some of the ancient sedimentary deposits that were left over from before the mountain range was uplifted and they also escaped scouring by the glaciers. Of course, it was 35 years ago so I am rusty about the locations... but will see if I can find out more about them. Also look at the deposits and creeks near faults like around Angels Camp.

We also successfully panned in Woods Creek along the main road (Hwy 49) between Jamestown and Sonora, it has cross bedded shale that runs 90 degrees to the creek, so it makes a natural sluice box. It took Crevacing tools and picks and a lot of muscle to pry the shale to get into the cracks, but I bet a detector would pick up pretty good there provided there’s still public access to the creek. It was a long time ago that I was there and I imagine that it’s pretty well known to the locals by now...

[Update] Wow, I told you so! Just Googled it out of curiosity and OK, well the secret is definitely out about Woods Creek! And you know what I’m gonna say, right?! You’d better get down there soon, boy cause that’s where the gold is at!:bananadance:

    https://www.kcra.com/article/amateur-prospector-finds-large-gold-nugget-near-sonora/6430479#

... and now that I’m thinking about it, my stupid friends made me pry apart all that shale for a little bitty crumbs of gold when there were lunkers like that rolling around in the creek bed?! Even my cheapo Heath kit garage sale special detector could’ve found that one!:annoyed:

My wife surprised me today, she said she was bored and wanted to go to our local mtns, and even to go panning! we hung out at a place on the north side of Big Bear just outside of Holcomb Valley to do some sample panning and detecting for the afternoon. No gold but it was definately a lot of fun!

This hillside was hydraulic mined, lots of rock piled ip to form holding ponds, and lots of bullets!

This last photo is at the Lucky Baldwin Mine, cant collect there but quite a view!

    So, the search continues....

Probably my top favorite thread. I like seeing all the cool stuff to be found. What’s the lowest setup I could run and find cool shtuff? Nox 600 or could i go even lower on the price spectrum?
