It depends a lot on what type of detecting you want to do?

I have a MineLab Vanquish 540 and it works well for relics and such, but I don't think it would be any good for gold. This is my first detector and I have been very pleased with my choice. $369 most places.

Steve Hershbach, owner of detectorprospector.com, is based in Alaska. He put together a great site about detecting. You should check out the site, there is a lot of really good information there with detector reviews and information about what different models can do.

There are a lot of different types of detectors, some are general use, and some specialize in different ways. The main factors of what you should look for are based on your budget and type of detecting you want to do, gold prospecting, coins, jewelry and other old metal stuff away (from salty areas), coins and jewelry at the beach and saltwater areas, or all of these?

Personally, I’d think the Equinox models are a good choice, and there are some good bundle sales on them this weekend, unless you are looking for used. Here is a place to start on the site, but also feel free to post your question there too!

    https://www.detectorprospector.com/metal-detector-database/

Minelab Equinox 600 and other bundle sales going on:

Do you know how to tell the difference between black bear and grizzly bear shit?

Black bear shit has seeds, bits of bone and fur in it, and grizzly bear shit has bells in it!:rimshot:
