Ever get a reverse signal? If you wpuld like, I can tell you first hand what big gold sounds like. You will pass it up and not dig it. I have set and watched to many people walk over the good ones, only for me to dig them. I'll give you a lesson in the bigs with the ZED. Just say when. Pm me.

Depending on where your at and the soiltypes near you as to what detector will work. Then decide what you want to hunt. Then ask again what detector. Those two things are going to be key in the selection of a good starter machine.

Welcome! Sorry, I cannot help much for your question, as I really only know about Minelab stuff, but there are some good folks here that can help. Also, you should look at this website for help too, it has a very knowledgeable detector following that will help out:

    Good luck!

Central and west Texas mostly, possibly the Gulf coast beaches, but not as likely. I am planning a trip in October to go to Knob Creek, but probably wouldnt be able to hunt.
Lotsa limestone and flint where I would normally hunt. And WHAT I want to hunt? There's never really been any precious metal mining in Texas, so gold is out;). So most likely relic/coinage. I would like the capability of being able to take it to a beach/lake/river and not being scared of getting at least the coils a little wet, but doesnt have to be waterproof to <10-15 feet.

Just finished making my $23 Homer Homelite gas powered gold vacuum. It really sucks!

It’s a garage sale Homelite 23cc 2-cycle Zipstart handheld leaf blower, screen, three screws, Homer bucket and top, two 2-inch threaded pipe fittings (1 90-degree elbow and a male thread to female slip adapter).

If you’re looking online at some of the other retail models (e.g., the Keene vac), be careful about trying to make your own with a four cycle motor like the Makita or Honda leaf blowers because those motors will not oil themselves correctly if they are not in the proper orientation, it has to be a vertical shaft oriented motor in order for it to work right (I think Keene has modified their motors as they are using Makita 4-strokes on their vacs).

Its a vacuum to help collect rocks, sand, and hopefully gold, that gets stuck in the cracks of bedrock. Since gold is really heavy, it tends to collect at the lowest points of a stream channel or in bedrock cracks where floodwaters deposit it.

Here’s an example- skip ahead to 10:40 if you want to pass the mine tour part, its pretty interesting though...

I just got word from my buddy that Whites Electronics is closing it's doors.
I buddy was a Whites dealer for quite a few years and didn't seem too surprised.

How could they compete? A lot of domestic specialty companies like that which have anything to do with outdoors, rockhounding, lapidary woodworking, and other hobbycraft activities have taken a big hit, and not just due to Corvid-19. It was happening before that hit. All us old guys who liked those outdoor and craft hobbies are going away...:tumbleweed:
