No updates for me, taking programing classes online and nearing our finals project time so I cannot go out. Besides, it was 111° by mid-afternoon yesterday, so I’m laying low in the den like a tortoise!

It's actually supposed to only get into the upper 90s this weekend, so hopefully I can experiment a bit in the mornings with the Nox

A buddy of mine just made me this cleanup sluice. It has this handmade silicone mat that supposedly really catches flour gold. I like cleanup with a pan, but this will speed up the process. I can’t wait to test it out.

I am also fixing to get a larger blower-type drywasher - gearing up to work a site later this fall when it cools off here.

He wants to sell it but doesn’t have a name yet. Maybe the “golden shower sluice”? Uhh, maybe not...

Cool! Curious to see how well it works.
Have you used a spiral bowl or a Gold Cube?
The bowls work quite well, and I have a buddy who swears by the Cube.

Spiral bowls are slow, aren’t they? The Gold Lady has a video of using one to do dry concentrating, looked interesting and they were demonstrating using a Keene 190.

My friends were crushing ore you could see microspecks of gold in and using a gold cube at the claim when I was there. I just drywashed with my puffer and had a half bucket of concentrate by the time they cleaned the cube out. It seemed slow to clean and didn’t do that well. Guess they were using it wrong or something. I think the sluice will work well, I will make a PVC stand for it with a catch basin and 12v pump to recirculate the water. I also plan on panning the tailings to double check how well it did.

Totally oblivious of gold panning/prospecting/etc., but can you use the same type of sluice for dry and wet panning?

A sluice designed for water wont work dry, the riffles or bumps are too low. Drywashers only work because they have high riffles and work with air, or a combination of vibration and air, to “float” away lighter dirt from heavier gold which gets stuck behind the riffles. You can also drywash successfully with a gold pan too, it’s a great way to test an area you’re hiking through:
