Sorry you missed out! The GM is a small gold vacuum cleaner, put the 5” coil on it and go find gold. If you have some old mines or drywasher piles near you, be sure to check the tailings with it and bring a metal rake to rake down the pile to detect it in layers. Good luck!

Welp, my buddy and I finally got onto a private land site we've had our eyes on. It blossomed in the early 1870's and prolly dissolved in the mid 1900's. We found signs of railroad activity, mining activity, and homesteading.

    Some of the interesting stuff:
    20201220_074514.jpg

Found a couple of neato buttons, part of an opium pipe, suspender clasps, and a ring that has "18K" imprinted inside.

Neat building, I like the cupola on the roof. Did you get to go inside?

That’s a large ratchet wheel like this one: http://clockrepaircapecod.com/blog/2016/8/5/worn-ratchet-wheel, Will is right, someone probably threw out their alarm clock! These guys could probably identify the clock and age for you of you post it on their forum: https://mb.nawcc.org/

Well, I had my first outing with the Gold Monster yesterday. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything even remotely associated with gold. Plenty of brass and lead from old shells and bullets though. I’m gonna have to find some old mines with tailings like you said I think. This definitely isn’t Arizona or BC.

Sadly, there aren’t a bunch of nuggets just laying around in this desert waiting to be detected. . . :tumbleweed:

Where are you in New Mexico, and what type of place did you go? I would try doing an online search for good places to go try first, like they all say, “gold is where the gold is” or in my case, gold is mostly not where I go look for it almost most of the time! There are some good ways online to find places to look for it before you go, otherwise you might even be looking for it in the wrong type of mining area.

Here is a great way for you to start the research, Steve even used NM as an example in the article so most of the work is almost complete for you:

    https://www.detectorprospector.com/magazine/steves-guides/where-to-prospect-for-gold-nuggets-r121/

Also check out your area on http://mylandmatters.org/Maps/

Here’s some tips on using that site to research:

Wow! That’s awesome, thanks brother! I just joined the GPAA and now have three claims I can search. A little over an hour from Las Cruces where I live. I’ll check out those links, thanks again!

I swear, between Yorktown, Va. And
Gloucester Point, VA. I can't find any bottle caps, can tabs, gum foil or nails.
Too damn much Revolutionary War trash.

    Funny you should say Will!

I got out yesterday and found my first token! And this is my first nice find with the Nox 800!
My buddy and I stayed the night at this site, but the 11 degree morn and impending snow storm chased us out of there.

Anyways, I don't know diddly about tokens, but I'm gonna get learned! I found a drink token apparently made by F.S. Jellerson for the J. M. Brunswick & Balke Co. It came from a site that originated in the 1870's and lasted 10-15 years. I suspect that Mr @excorcist or his buddy may have information about this token.
