Metal Detecting discussions and finds

Yeah she ate well this morning just before I went to work.

 

I mean overtime, takes long time for fat bodies to get used up if underfed. She looks good.

Yeah, long story short, this one would have been crushed under my front driver-side tire if I had not seen her out of the corner of my eye!!! She had to have been roughly only about 3x weeks old or thereabouts.

My mom always hated it because I'm always looking down towards the ground when I walk and my "posture" as well!!! Well the way I see it now, I was born to be an off-roader and metal detectorist!!!

Just found this thread. I have had two metal detectors over the years. I had a White’s model in the early 90’s (don’t remember which one) that I got when I started off roading in the desert. I sold it because it was too difficult to use. A few years later, I got a Tesoro Conquistador, which I still have. I never really got into detecting, but it still interests me, which is probably why I never sold the Tesoro, as it seems so basic. Maybe I will see if I can find a group to go out with to learn the finer points of detecting. There are a lot of areas out in northern LA county that would be cool to check out.

I also have a bunch of lizards at my house, but they are all free range! I like watching then do push-ups on my back wall.

Hey MarcM,

Are you closer to the deserts or coast? There are some great places between you and Kern County, The El Paso mountains and other parts of the Mojave are historically good for prospecting. If you are into coins and other stuff, lots of old sites and detecting along the beaches and parks, too. Check out the website detectorprospector.com for more info about it too.

I hadn't remembered seeing that brand of button before... it inspired me to dig through some of the ones I hadn't sorted yet and I found one, although a different variation. I'll attach a pic of it along with some of the others.

Very nice! I have some decent buttons also and I will post them up. However, most of mine look like the pile in your second photo. I found a small bead (surface find) the last time I was out.
Man oh man, I need to find a woman who is impressed by junky old buttons.....

 

So many lost buttons, wasnt it kinda dangerous back then to be dropping your pants?

Sooooo, I decided to hit the south side of the pier this past Sunday morning where there is more "foot traffic" due to the parking lots...


Anyways, I was "cleaning" the state beach involuntarily free of charge and this rang up on the "Silver" side of the range, but was a bit "jumpy" on signal return like it was likely junk, which is what I was retrieving with 99% of the finds (i.e. pop tops, etc)? I decided to retrieve the find though and this is what I had found... although it could be fake too?






Those are the only markings I can find?

I also did retrieve:

2x dimes 1991, 2015
1x penny 2021

So, I was not completely skunked as far as coin is concerned.

What are your thoughts about Pandora other than the evils released upon the world?

 

The Christmas bead is cool! Which detector were you running? Could be you got a funky signal because the bead is alloyed. My Nox will do that as it is trying to report the different metals in the target. Maybe...

For this particular hunt I decided to use my Garrett ACE350 with the Detech Ultimate 13in. DD.

My ACE250, which is my typical "go-to" was sitting out on this trip. I never tried the 13in on the 350 up until now.

Yeah, I'm thinking "mix alloy" too. I do like the find though. It also could have been how it was "situated" in the ground too?

Either way, I hope it is a 925?
