Aaagh, it's sooo hot! When are we going to be able to get out there to go detecting again?! :annoyed:

In the meantime, here's a short video my brother made when I took him detecting early summer for his first time- he should've been scraping dirt with my gold monster I loaned him but instead he was having too much fun taking movies and playing with a drone instead- oh well, we had a good time anyways!

I finally got out to swing the coil today as summer temp's are cooling down. I didn't detect up much of anything, but I did find an old button and part of an opium pipe. Too bad the pipe isn't whole because it would be really cool! Oh well... @Cwopinger

Any other trash in the area? You’d think it was a camp or someplace like that. Nice find!

There was a bunch of square nails, some broken glass and dishware, and an old busted up pot belly stove.
    Not much non-ferrous though.

Havent checked in here in a while... recently was out upland bird hunting and stopped by some sort of cement structure, had to satisfy my curiosity once I saw some old glass so started swinging and found a first for me, U.S. 2cent piece from 1865. Went to another spot I have been wanting to check out and found a gold monogram pendant and a whiskey bottle. 20211114_105333.jpg 20211116_111013.jpg 20211113_150645.jpg 20211113_180042.jpg 20211113_190726.jpg 20211116_112722.jpg 20211116_112753.jpg

Thanks dudes. Always humbling to be able to dig up stuff like that.

Ill add a couple pics of a few things I threw in the electrolysis setup as well here as i figure it may be of interest to the like minded folks in here

Looks like the electrolysis works well. My buddy bought one but I haven't had the opportunity to use it.
    Man, I haven't detected in 2-3 months.
EDIT: well, maybe a month or so, but it seems like forever...

Electrolysis works great, I just use an old (probably from '70s?) solid state 12v battery charger, with some scrap steel and any plastic container with some water and baking soda. Its a very interesting process and kind of fun. All of those things I probably let soak for about 12 hours, you can go much longer or shorter depending on your desired results.

I haven't gotten out much recently either, Its hard prioritizing life but metal detecting is always a great time

Can you explain the electrolysis process? I don’t have a detector so I’m clueslss about this stuff.

Hes using electrolysis to remove the rust. Basically a battery charger in a solution of water/some salt or vinegar

Basically what he said above. Im not well versed enough in the science behind it to do a good job explaining exactly whats going on, but essentially you submerge an object in a water/ baking soda solution, and attach the negative lead of the battery charger to the object you want to remove rust from, and the positive lead to a piece of "sacrificial" iron... the rust is pulled from the object and transferred to the sacrificial piece. It works very well and does not harm the objeft being cleaned like it would using a mechanical means to remove rust such as a wire brush etc.

Thanks guys. I didn’t realize you could clean up stuff that easy.

Now I’m wondering what kind of stuff I could find in some of the places I’ve found in my area. I really don’t need another hobby… lol
